it all comes down to $. how much did he sign for? he is a "solid" player but not a playmaker, on a team that has almost none. so did we use up almost all our cap space on a nonplaymaking DL who was on our 6-10 squad last year? If so I can't see how this will be an improvement.
Now if the deal is cap friendly and we can still sign some playmakers (any left?) then I am fine with the move.
So much of our resources as sunk into lineman (in $$ and picks) and it's gotten us no where. That's why I'm not ecstatic with the move. But again what are the terms?
Soliai gives us a good DT in the 4-3 and a good NT when we play in the 3-4 even if he has to lose some weight. He may be more effective as a pass rusher because of the extra help at tackle.
I think we have zero chance of getting no one.
I think we'd do well to draft two from this group of guys.
1. Michael Floyd
2. Stephen Hill
3. Marvin Jones
4. DeVier Posey
5. AJ Jenkins
Soliai was one of the top 5 players on our defense. And he is one of the best run defenders in the league. 2 years at $6M per year, with only $6M guaranteed over the 2 years, is a good deal. I had his market value pegged at around $7M per season. So, this is a key piece of the defense that gets kept.

If we go to a 4-3, Misi is going to get first crack at MLB. Dansby (Will) and Burnett (Sam) would be the two OLB in that scheme.

That's going to be a complete disaster. A DE/OLB can't just move to MLB like that. It's a very different position.

Keep in mind, Misi was a 4-3 DT in college, and we moved him to 3-4 OLB. That's quite a change, too. They like Misi's instincts and his motor, and think he could fit inside. Quite honestly, the Fins coaching staff has a much better idea of what Misi is capable of than any of us do. And they think he could move inside.

Blackmon won't make it past the Rams.
