Fans are "fanatical" by definition. Some moreso than others.

Sure it would be easier to operate in a vacuum as GM but thats not an option in this day and age. At least every team has the same problem to deal with.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about fans (from other cities) fighting and killing each other.

I think the billboard was not obnoxious---and even if it were, I'd probably still not have a problem with it.

At least the fans *care*. If the fans were collectively apathetic over the whole thing, that'd be much worse.

I do not understand how a fan would make it more difficult for them to do their jobs properly?

They are going to do what they are going to do...Fans are not going to tell them what to do.

Maybe if they had listen to their fans we would had rodgers or brees Qbacking this team....Or randy moss would had played along side dan marino.

Public pressure to acquire a player can drive up the price.

It just makes it harder to negotiate.

Also, people under pressure don't always do the right thing. Sometimes that pressure makes them uncomfortable or can make someone fearful of losing their job. In a GM that can lead to short term thinking and a higher propensity for taking bad risks.

One good thing Ireland has shown so far is he sticks to his guns. He trusts his gameplan, process and evaluations.

And this is the reason why it doesnt matter what the fans say.

If fans opinions matter to these people they would had picked a qb in the first round a long time ago.

It goes both ways. We also would have given up the farm for Kyle Orton last season. That's what the fans wanted, right?

I have been against giving picks and trading for other team's qb fodder a long time ago.......But thats just me.

I just want them to pick a qb in the first round for once in their lifetime.....Aside from marino that is...

What is a fanatic?

Synonyms
1. enthusiast, zealot, bigot, hothead, militant. Fanatic, zealot, militant, devotee refer to persons showing more than ordinary support for, adherence to, or interest in a cause, point of view, or activity. Fanatic and zealot both suggest excessive or overweening devotion to a cause or belief. Fanatic further implies unbalanced or obsessive behavior: a wild-eyed fanatic. Zealot, only slightly less unfavorable in implication than fanatic, implies single-minded partisanship: a tireless zealot for tax reform. Militant stresses vigorous, aggressive support for or opposition to a plan or ideal and suggests a combative stance. Devotee is a milder term than any of the foregoing, suggesting enthusiasm but not to the exclusion of other interests or possible points of view: a jazz devotee.

LOL. Then go back and read another reason why they need to, or don't need to grab Flynn, manning. Why RGIII is, or isn't worth a bunch of picks. What he eats for breakfast and the color of his do-do. confused smiley

The front office is not paying any attention to the fans. Like it or not, we fans are idiots when it comes to really knowing football. Everyone likes to think they are some armchair expert on football talent, but none of us know 1/1000th of what an NFL personnel guy knows. None of us. People think watching a game on TV is the same as breaking the game down. The game looks totally different when they are watching coaches' film, shot from the endzone, with every player visible in the frame. We don't see that. And we don't see the angles. And we don't know the play calls. And we don't know what every player was supposed to do on every play. And we don't know what all of the opposing players were doing. Without that knowledge, we, as fans, can't really tell anything.

After the Super Bowl, Jim Miller on Sirius broke down the pass to Manningham. Miller said he used to play in that offense, and he knew exactly what the playcall was. He told what every receiver does on that play, and how Manningham was the third option. And how Manningham's route normally has two options against the initial defensive look. But after he runs 14 yards, he has to read the defense, and if they stay in that same initial look, he runs one of two option routes depending on how the corner is positioned. But, if the coverage was disguised, which it was, and it was a cover-2 shell, then Manningham takes it deep, which is not one of the original two options. That's how complicated an NFL play is. And the guys who know football know that. We, as fans, don't know that, so can't really tell anything. So, no front office is going to pay any attention to what fans think.

What? We're not allowed to have opinions and discuss them? Isn't that exactly what this board is for?
