Depressed Draft Day

I'd say last year was an exception to the rule. 'The Rule' being that we always blow it in one way or the other...and leave ourselves disappointed.
Before I release my full DD13 Mock Draft, I wanna hear from you Dolfans! What the HELL are we gonna do ?

It all.depends on what we do with the Manning/Flynn situation.

If we get one of them...we will upgrade the OL at RT.

If we don't get.them.....we will be selling the farm for.RG3.

TRENT RICHARDSON is the best RB prospect since AP, any interest?

Naw, isn't he a first rounder? I don't think that with Reggie, now is the draft we go for a first rounder in the rb category.

We will draft Melvin Ingram DE/OLB from South Carolina. Initially I thought it might be Riley Reiff, but I think a pass rusher like Ingram would have more of an impact and we could get an OT in the second round. Courney Upshaw is another possibility, but after studying the film, I am more impressed with Ingram.

More impressed with Marecellus Wiley and Nick Perry in the late first round than Ingram, Upshaw, or Coples.

The first two could be pass rush specialists and we can start Odrick or Langford at SDE then move them inside on pass rushing downs.

The latter three are overly rated and I would not take them with a top 10 pick. I would rather get Reiff if we do not trade down or trade up for RGIII.

I like "Crappin" Crunch. Anyone remember "Quisp"?

I still think we need to do everything possible to land Luck. Contact Indy and let them know we will work out a deal.

I could live with trading our #1 this year, Brandon Marshall, one defensive lineman and our #1 next year. They can build around Payton.

you have no idea how much more than that it will take to trade up for luck.

Hi berkeley223...we need to start the process. If Payton is talking to them about staying, then we need to begin the process. Start by low balling and ask for a counter proposal.

Get them into a discussion with us.

Get in the game for Luck. Now is not too late. Put the pressue on Indy.

At # 8 and Trent Richardson on the board we may be able to slide down and pick up an additional choice... With Cincinnati
We get their #21 & 53
#21 CORDY GLENN RT
#43 COBY FLEENER TE
#53 ORSON CHARLES TE
#73 LAMICHAEL JAMES RB
#103 JOSH KADDU DE
#143 ANDREW DATKO RT
#173 ...

Once we get Coby Fleener, we need no other tight end.

sure, you can offer them marshall, a first, and randy starks or some other DL (Merling? McDaniels? lol), and then they will laugh and hang up the phone. The only way they trade luck is for something like 3 1st rounders and more---they are not dumping payton and not replacing him with luck for any less. honestly I don't think they trade out of the 1st for any offer, since the thinking is the next Manning or Elway is worth more than 3 first rounders (and their assumption is Luck will be that good).

Hi berkeley223 - I agree with you that Indy thinks Luck is the next greag QB out of colllege, but we should give a go. Send them an offer and request a counter offer.

If they ignore, send another offer. What exactly will it hurt? IF we ahve a 1% chance I say give it a try.

We should not let any stone remain unturned in our quest for our franchize QB. Not a single one.

hell yeah I'd make an offer for luck. I'd go as far as 2 #1s and Jake Long, and a 4th rounder. would you do that deal doug? It's gonna take that much, and Indy still may not do it. ps marshall is a nonstarter, I doubt anyone wants him, or anyone on our team except wake, long, and maybe (as a throw in) Bess.

You guys are on something ... you can't play a game with Indy when they hold all the cards ... add to that that if we were to low ball Peyton he has many more suiters willing to step up.

Please, if Ross were to take the advise on this thread we'll be sucking wind come draft time.

Strategy has to be:

Free Agency comes first:

- Take Peyton if we can get him and he looks healthy.

- Backup plan go with Matt Flynn if you can get him.

Draft:

- See what QB falls to you at our position. If it is a strong QB for the future. Takle him (yes even if you have manning, probably not if you ended up with Matt Flynn, cause you rolled the dice on a younger guy with promise)

- If you don't get a strong QB at our pick ... trade down (get stronger for next year, or get OL support

Just my opinion.

Peyton is still under contract with Indy, so I don't think anyone can talk to Indy about making a move. Besides that, he basically is untradable. Once Peyton and Irsay talk, Peyton will be released from his contract (Irsay isn't going to pay Manning that $28M).

Peyton is the #1 priority on Miami's "to do" list, but can't move too fast because as of right now, his arm still hasn't regenerated to where he can throw well. Would be stupid to sign him before knowing if he can play or not. Miami will just have to wait until he passes the tests he will be put through. Flynn is the backup plan, but as I said earlier, if he comes at too high of a price, very doubtful Miami will aggressively pursue him. If he comes on the cheap, then Miami will probably sign him before knowing whether Peyton can play or not.

As far as the draft goes, my thoughts are:

(1) Trade down, but remain in the top 15. Miami would be swapping #1s and probably picking up an extra 2nd rounder. Use that first pick on a playmaker (offense or defense, doesn't matter) then that 2nd pick on the best QB available. If one is not worth that 2nd pick, then go for an area of need (probably OL).

(2) If they can't put together a good enough package to get RG III (which I don't think they will be able to do) and they can't trade down, then pick that playmaker with the 8th or 9th pick, and I would be looking at someone like Coples.

if we don't sign a FA QB (Flynn or Manning in that order IMO), stay at #8 or 9 and take BPA (pass rusher or OL). If not trade up for RG3. No trade downs, that's the loser route we've taken for years.

??? Berk we've traded down in the first round ONCE this century.

That was with SD in 2010.

If anything...NOT trading down is the loser route we've taken for years.

Look at it this way.

Everybody is worried about one team driving up the cost of trading up for RG3...Cleveland.

Why? Because they traded DOWN last year and picked up an additional #1 this year.

If we don't get Manning or Flynn and cant trade up for RG3 because Cleveland out bids us doesn't that make the argument we'd be better suited trading down and adding picks next year to go get Barkley or Jones?
