Only thing I can see against Philbin is that whole son being found dead thing. But to me McCoy should not be coaching anyone-there is a word for him he --->"sucks".
But Ross...who has no football experience scares me if he makes the ultimate decision against all the "football people" telling him to do something different.
The likely reason why Ireland wants McCoy is because it would mean virtually no changes. Philbin would mean a transition to a West Coast offense, and maybe a new defensive system, depending on who Philbin was comfortable with as a DC. It could be "blowing up" what Ireland has done to this point.
McCoy coached under Jeff Davidson in Carolina for two years, and then in Denver under Josh McDaniels for 3 years. Davidson, McDaniels, and Daboll all coached together on the Patriots' staff. They all run similar offensive systems. Matt Moore was identified as a likely Dolphins target back in May because of his familiarity with Daboll's system from his days in Carolina. Hiring McCoy probably means that Daboll stays. And having been a Pats' guy, McCoy probably believes in a 3-4 defense. So, with McCoy, you would likely see very little change. That's probably why Ireland wants him. Even though McCoy's on-field results are dubious at best.

JJ left because he didn't want to be the guy who kicked Marino out the door. His reputation had been damaged enough, and he didn't want to hurt it any more.
McCoy pulling out of the Oakland search seems to me to be arrogant beyond belief. I still think its going to be Philbin, though I would prefer a more considered coaching search. As for an DC, I agree with Victor-maybe Bowles?

What's not to like? In 2009, McCoy led the Broncos to the 20th ranked offense in the league (in points scored). In 2010, he led them to the 19th ranked offense. And in 2011, maybe his finest season, tailoring the offense around Tebow, he led the Broncos to the 25th ranked offense.
Yup, he sure has an impressive track record as an offensive coordinator. As long as you don't care about scoring points.

You were dead on with the Philbin choice, when I thought for sure it was McCoy.
