This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
Joe Philbin , Mike Mccoy and Todd Bowles are the three leading candidates left.
This story reminds me of Jerry Jones and Al Davis Meaning that ross
will be the puppet master of one of these coaches, and he will control
everything.
I wouldn't mind Mike Mccoy, But i think the coach will be Todd Bowles.
Philbin has to many problems and he is another offensive line coach.
I just think That Ross wants total control over the team meaning, he is the owner, coach , and Gm.
reportedly the reason zimmer is out is b/c he was too outspoken in the interview. So it is clear Ireland is interested only in "yes men." Lord help us.

So anyone who rocks the boat drops out of contention??!! Geez. You'd think they'd be auditioning their fist-pumps for field goals!

If u think Ross wants to be al davis then you are COMPLETELY missing the boat and have no ideaY what's going on here.

Might as well be consistent. Our last HC was an O-Line coach. On the other hand, or OC came from a team with a bad offense and did pretty well here.
Ross doesnt know enough about football to be an Al Davis time micromanager. He knows as much about football as my 4 year old niece with his over the top comments like Henne is going to be the next Marino, the Dolphins (coming off a 7-9 season) are going to win the Superbowl, etc. etc.

That's right. Which is why suggesting our 3 finalists are puppets is an absurd comment.

Ok. A slightly less absurd notion.
Is Ireland going to hire a guy that shares his vision for our future?
Sure he is. He'd a fool not to at this point in the process.
But the notion that Ireland or Ross is going to...or even wants to...pull strings on thir hc implies they want to coach.
Stupid people do stupid things for stupid reasons, the Truth. That's what makes them stupid. And it is stupid itself to adopt the reason that a stupid person wouldn't do a stupid thing because that would be stupid.
Like in the 60's thermonuclear war scenario, I know what barb your reply will contain so consider me as having launched it at you first.

Where u shooting for "stupid is as stupid does"??
Bottom line here is that it's pretty stupid to suggest that Ross or Ireland is looking for a puppet coach so the can secretly Pull his strings fom the luxury box. Especially since theres not one shred of even circumstantial evidence from people who have actually met these guys that supports such a statement.
Just because someone is perceived to be "stupid" by another doesn't mean they will do every stupid thing one can imagine. Does it?
I have no personal knowledge of Ross, or Ireland for that matter. Other than what I've read and heard from them on TV, my opinion is pretty speculative. So, here it is.
Ross is a billionaire who is a couch football fan. He's not unlike many of us in that respect. What sets him apart from all of us (other posting billionaires please stand up) is his ownership of the Dolphins and other significant business activities. Mr. Ross is an owner who is excited about owning an NFL franchise and stadium, practice complex and wants it to be a success. He hires others around him to provide expertise in all prominent positions. Example: advisors, consultants, CPAs, tax lawyers, and financial people.
As the Dolphins owner Ireland and Sparano came with the deal. Sparano is gone, Ireland is still on. My guess (pure speculation) is that Ross had far more everyday contact with Ireland than with the HC. What Ross saw in Ireland is anybody's guess, but the good things outweighed the bad. Sparano on the other hand was visible on Sunday and the losses were his downfall. Ross want to win. All successful businessman win. That is their entire goal and existence.
In that respect, Ross doesn't want to be his own, advisor, consultant, CPA, tax lawyer or GM. He certainly doesn't have the savvy to coach. The best he can do is hire the best people and not meddle in the everyday running of the team. A new HC is like the captain of the ship. What he says goes on game day when the team sets sail against another team.
Under this presumption, and that's all it is, my belief is that Ross want to hire an upstart with lots of passion and fire in him. That HC prospect has to be his own man yet be appreciative that he still works for Ross. His immediate supervisor is Ireland.
Just because the Dolphins don't or can't hire a big name HC, doesn't mean the new HC who ever it is, will lack the guts to stand up to Ireland or Ross when it comes to what goes on in the locker room and on the field.
Who ever is finally selected as HC, the new guy will need not only the support of his employer and Ireland, but from the fans. We need to hold our tongues and let the next season unfold.
Criticize lousy draft picks or trades but leave the new coach alone until we can see his successes and failures. And like all of us, there will be both.
I can see the headlines now. Dolphins finally hire the "Real McCoy!" That would be cute and hopefully very true for all of us.

Did he really say that though? I thought the quote was that he WANTS or now...'wanted' Henne to be the next Marino. Which is fine, IMO. I'd want my quarterback to be the best QB the team has ever had. I'd want my Running back to be the best ever, etc.
"Ross said of Henne: "I'm sure, and I'm hoping -- as everybody else is -- that he goes down as the greatest quarterback in Miami Dolphin history. And you know what that will mean."
So, the Truth, what do you say about Berk's post about the rumor as to why Zimmer was rejected?
That you just don't believe it?
If that's true, that's all you have to say but don't defend your disbelief on the ground that that would be stupid for Ross to do because Ross IS stupid!

That's true JC, he didn't exactly say Henne was the next Marino. I remember the quote and I sort of exxaggerated what he said. But I thought his comment was over the top and childish. It's not bad to have high expectations but everything he says just seems so unrealistic and over the top, kind of like what you'd expect a child to say about his favorite team. And my point is this; Since he became the owner of the Miami Dolphins Ross has come across and continues to come across as a clown in the quotes he gives and the comments he makes about the state of the franchise. It's really frustrating and embarrassing. He hasn't represented the franchise well and it's hard to take him seriously and I'm sure the rest of the league does not take him seriously when they hear him talk like that. He does not do much to instill any confidence in his leadership ability to the fans of this team and it has me highly concerned about the future of the Miami Dolphins.
its gonna be hard watching one of those guys as head coach of the miami dolphins ..... we might as well of kept sporano ... we should be looking for a young up and comer like chud or winston moss ( its all about the U )

Was this question asked to suggest some sort of incompetence on Ross/Ireland for not hiring a guy with a reputation for clashing with his bosses? (Because of the news feed being down I can't find the article about him heavily criticizing upper mgt at a previous stop). Which is it, are they morons for hiring "another Cowboy retread", or are they morons for not hiring a guy they didn't feel comfortable with?

I'm sorry Chyren but I still don't see the problem? Maybe he came to the interview with his "Van Halen KICKS ASS" (circa 1989) concert tee on and popping his gum. Either way, he didn't have a good interview and he didn't get hired, where's the incompetance in that??????
There's enough things to criticize Ireland/Ross for, I just don't see the need to manufacture some.

Thanks for posting that comment...I had missed it the first time around.
Rumors really don't move the needle with me at this time of year.
I know Crowder52 thinks Armando Salguero is a nitwit, but that doesn't change the fact that he's right. There is A TON of misinformation flying around out there right now and people have deadlines and website hits to meet and drive.
I wasn't at the Zimmer interview. I have no idea how the source of that rumor defines "outspoken". If Zimmer came across as boastful or another Rex Ryan...then he'd fit that description and i wouldn't want him.
I have no idea what Zimmer's personality is or what he was "outspoken" about.
