good news. not totally enamored with him but he's better than the alternatives PLUS if we lost out on him to the Rams that would really put this team into a tailspin. We've not got a little credibility back.

PS I will believe it when i see it. I remember similar posts on here about ORton and Harbaugh being done deals.

ESPN already denies reporting it, Mike Bernadino tweeted (or re-tweeted) it, not sure how credible he is but hopefully some good news comes pretty soon.

although from what I am reading everyone from ESPN is disputing that anything has been reported on Fisher.... Nothing has been reported about Fisher yet, according to all of the sources I trust on twitter, they are all denying the report

Bernadino is a tool....
Lombardi, says Fisher could make to decision to join Dolphins on Wednesday is what he just tweeted...

I could win the lottery tonight....

"Could"

Mike Berardino
Also In Miami
I think Jeff Fisher and his agent are trying to leverage the best possible deal from the St. Louis Rams (more control, salary escalators, increased pay if team does move back to LA). All the pro-Dolphins leaks are coming out of his camp.

I agree Crowder.......Berardino is a tool

Lombardi on NFL.com is saying Fisher more comfortable with Fins and fears Rams moving and does not want to go through that again. I think his agent and Ross working on contract and he has informed the Rams and that is why they are looking at Chud now.smileys with beer

Sounds like leveraging to me. That doesn't mean we won't be the team he picks but sounds like to me he wants to see how high up he can get both teams.

Question I have, will Fisher report to Ireland, or will they reverse that (Ireland reporting to Fisher). I'd be surprised if Fisher was ok reporting to Ireland, who has nowhere near the experience that Fisher has.

Fisher needs to be hired to consolidate both jobs and Ireland needs to be shown the door.

I don't agree. I think Ireland has made some good moves as GM, but he's too green to be Fisher's boss. He's 1000x better than Spielman!

As I've said before, I believe that is a HORRIBLE long term management structure.

a Coach needs to focus on coaching and winning in the present, a GM needs to have a longer term strategy.

Granted, Fisher needs to have a GM he can work for, but he's not htat big of a name that I'd give him full control.

Besides, I think the scenario here is that id Fisher came on board...so would Carl Peterson. Ireland is a Peterson guy. He'd probably stay, but have to give up final say to Peterson.

Agreed

Why not the GM work for him? Why not give Fisher the final say on personnel moves, but still have a GM that does the work?

Because I want my coach to focus on putting the pieces together to beat my opponent that week. He needs his players to believe in him, that they are in it together.

I want my GM to look at my roster and figure out who will be here next year...who I'm giving long term deals to... and who has more value to the longterm success of my franchise either playing this year or being traded for other assets.

Everytime a trade rumor pops up in the papers it impacts the relationship between the player and the person that is considering trading him.

If that person is also his coach it can become a major problem should that player lose confidence in, or stop trusting his leader.

Add to that the fact that coaching is a 24 hour a day, 365 day a year job and how can I possibly expect any man to do that job at his highest level when he has another full time job to do as well.

No thanks. that's not for me.

I want a GM that runs the organization and is a great identifier of talent. Who picks a coach he has a good relationship with, and who is smart enough to listen to what that coach wants/needs to win. But most importantly, I want a GM who has the balls and the authority to trade away assets without anyone elses consent and who drafts the best players possible in the draft (after getting a QB ) without favoring the offense or defense (as most coaches do based on their coaching background).

In short, I want a coach to worry about X's and O's.

I want a GM to focus on identifying and acquiring talent.

Those are two FULLTIME jobs that require to different skill sets and two different points of view.

Fisher is holding out to see if Ross will get him Barry Manilow as a team celebrity owner and a mangroomer for the Stache.

Fisher is having a special air tonight called the decision where it's expected he will announce he is taking his coaching talents to south beach.

I'd rather have Philbin...and I agree the coach and GM should not be the same person. The list of people that have ever been sucessful at doing both jobs is very, very, very, short.

Philbin hasnt proved anything. NOTHING.

Matter of fact, he hasnt even proved that he can call plays.

Fisher on the other hand, came within 1 yard of being a Superbowl winner.

Fisher's 6 winning seasons out of 16 and his lifetime winning percentage of just over .500 is pretty poor if you ask me...Philbin may not have proven that he can be a head coach but I'd rather take a chance on youth, energy, imagination, drive, and agressiveness than to hire Fisher who is really more of the same old, same old...I don't want another conservative, defensive minded, coach.

Not sure Im willing to take a chance on Cam Cameron again.

But hey....thats just me.

Dont forget, when Fisher had a good QB, his team was arguably the best in the AFC.

I was really hoping for Gruden!
I can't believe Gruden wouldn't want to coach here!!
Whatever! His loss!

Fisher certainly has cred. Hope he has the ability to assemble his own staff. He may or may not want to keep his current coords. I can see keeping Nolan, maybe not daboll.

I've seen a few reports that wherever Fisher ends up, the D cord from the saints is gonna follow him, his name is escaping me but he's pretty well known.
