Mularkey has been in the NFL a long time and has been employed by multiple teams in multiple capacities from position coach to head coach. He is obviously a good coach and knows quite a bit about the game. People don't get as many chances as he has without being good at what they do. To say or imply that he sucks is a gross overstatement.

That said, I wouldn't hire him to be our head coach and I hope Ross doesn't either.

if I recall he was the OC here who called the brilliant 2 pt conversion call at the end of the game vs the texans---ronnie brown half back option, and we lost the game. I can't believe we are interviewing him for HC.
I was listening to espn radio and they said that any team planning to interview malarky should cancel the interview after seeing the falcons game today!!
I wonder if malarky gets flown on the chopper or made to take Air Tran (or Southwest like the rams made fisher do) .

If Ross thinks that hiring Mularky as head coach will sell tickets, he's smoking the same wacky weed that got Ricky suspended. If you're going to go with a coordinator, at least lets hire one that didn't get fired by Buffalo.

Well said Reppa, totally agree. I wasn't crazy about Sporano either, but I freakin KNEW this was going to happen if we fired him. I knew we were going to have a b!tch of a time finding a legitimate head coach to replace Sporano, and now here we are, bottom feeding, getting passed over by any and everyone who is even remotely intriguing as a head coach prospect.

There were definitely things I did not like about Sporano, he wasn't great at clock management, he made some stupid decisions that hurt us, he had developed a track record of being too conservative, and he stuck with the same tired football philosophy that had proved unsuccessful for us way too long.

That being said, I was encouraged by his changing of philosophy and game planning when he finally started to acknowledge that things weren't working the way we were doing them, and we started throwing the ball more and throwing down the field and taking more chances, and we started seeing results. We started moving the offense better and picking up huge chunks of yards by throwing deep, and as a result, we started winning games. Unfortunately it was too little too late, and now we sacrificed the stability in coaching, staff, scheme, most likely in the play book, and so on. All with a guy the players respected and played hard for. I compare his transformation to what we say with Tom Coughlin when he had to change his ways to be a better coach to the Giants and even in the same way that Rex Ryan threw his entie defensive philosophy out the window when they beat the Patriots in the playoffs after getting lit up in the regular season by them. He saw that his scheme wasnt working so he adapted and it paid off. I think Sporano did that to a certain extent. But alright I get it, he's gone.

But honestly, I know most people here hated him and held him directly responsible for our struggles, but at the end of the day I was and continue to be more worried about being stuck with some bottom-feeder replacement coach and all the destabilizing changes that are sure to be made because of it, than I was about having Sporano stay on.

This is hilarious, we're barely thru wildcard weekend and the "we should of kept Sparano" threads are already popping up. Some of you guys crack me up.

SO let me get this straight, you are telling me I am out of the loop, and then you suggest that Carl Peterson, a guy who doesnt even work for the Dolphins somehow approached, Jon Gruden and made an offer on behalf of an organization he doesnt even work for, and you have the inside scoop that Jon Gruden, told Carl Peterson, the QB situation is the issue not the egotistical hard to work with GM... sorry but i have to laugh that one all day long... If that is what Ross did, he scuttled the ship, with how he once again handled himself. ROss is an idiot, to send somebody that doesnt even work for the team publicly, to do something that a GM should be doing... It underminds the GM position, the franchise, and makes us look like fools.... Nobody worth a cr*p is going to partake in that circus, especially when the owner thinks this is putting your best foot forward trying to entice a big name to join his dysfuntional mess... SMH

Why? Did you have problems coming up with your own material?

Tony was a good guy, decent coach.but he wasn't a difference maker. Too conservative. Terrible clock mgt and in game decision maker.

Seen enough last year to know he wasn't the answer.

My main point is that our current predicament is possibly a bigger nightmare than keeping Sporano in place.

Not saying berk agrees with everything I said, but the notion of uprooting everything only to end up with a gaping hole at head coach that no legitimate coach wants to touch with a 10-foot pole causing us to scrounge for bottom feeders like Mularkey and possibly end up not even being able to land pathetic candidates like him to the point where we're stuck promoting our defensive backs coach to HC, leap-frogging about 3 positions in the process, well that would be a new low for us.

Basically I feel worse about our coaching situation now then I did in week 15 when we went 5-2 after our losing streak the first half of the season. I've never felt as worried about our head coaching situation as I do at this moment.

but yeah pretty close. I still think it's 50-50 we get fisher. If not then who knows? I'd say in order from most likely we end up with zimmer due to his DAL connection (way to really earn that $$ Ireland), or keep bowles. I think philbin won't be taking a HC job given the death of his son today

I hear ya, but it's hard to conceive that some great head coach will come out of the woodwork, just out of nowhere, after what we've seen go on since the position opened up. Usually the moment the position opens up, the key guys are already on the radar. But it looks like we've already been turned down by all those guys, the big name coaches available Gruden, Cower, Fisher, they all look like they don't want to go anywhere near us. I mean, the fact that we're looking at Mike Mularkey should tell you something, just how far down the totem pole we're going and how quickly. The fact that our prospects look so dim just one week into our search isn't promising.

The fact that a guy like Fisher would rather freeze his balls off in St. Louis to coach a horrible 2-win team over coming to beautiful south Florida to coach what we regard as a much better team, with more talent, more bright spots, better prospects for the future in a team that is much closer to being a competitive playoff caliber team, is extremely worrisome.

I mean if there's anything you can say to put my mind at ease about our head coaching search I'm all ears, and I'm being genuine about that. I know you have no vested interest in making me feel better about this, but it would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if our best hopes are for finding the next hot offensive coordinator or what, but it's just that we're off to a very poor start.

well pantera, don't give up hope on fisher yet. mike silver from yahoo has been writing all this time including today that it's still a toss up for fisher re where to go. if we don't get him, we will be competing only with TB and JAX for a HC job, and I don't care how bad it seems, we are a way better job than those places. We will have our pick of anyone not named Cowher, Jon Gruden, or Fisher. Any "hot coordinator" or retread we want. I highly doubt they hire mularky, after yesterday's performance it is basically unfathomable they do that. the fanbase would just totally give up on the team.

I agree on Fisher, to me it sounds like he is leaning towards us... Not really excited about that...Sparano is a better coach then Fisher IMO, just less experienced.... Zimmer makes zero sense to me, if you want a defensive guy, Nolan is far superior to Zimmer. SO if that is the direction why not just make NOlan the guy, which I dont think it a great idea, but surely better then Zimmer...

Gonna close this thread, not because anything nasty is happening, but because Mularky is in the loving arms of that new Jacksonville owner, AND because there's a separate thread on that bit of news.
