This is pretty odd if the case (maybe a good thing), because I would figure that if Carl Peterson was gonna get hired....Ross would hire him first, then have him pick a Head Coach.
wow, that is unbelievable re the peterson report. so let me get this straight, someone not working for the dolphins offer a job to gruden with the authority to fire the team's gm? how dysfunctional can you get?
and to top it all off, gruden turned it down!

Yea, its a crazy story. Maybe the dysfunction is why he turned it down.
so ross has learned nothing from last jan? he's still offering jobs (thru his minions) to people behind the backs of the person still in the postion (in this case Ireland not Sporano)?
It's not uncommon for businessmen who do large investments to employ agents, to work for them on a commission basis to scout out business prospects. Since Peterson is a good friend of Ross' perhaps this is what happened. Consider it on a larger scale with a country sending a ambassador to another country. That ambassador represents the sending country who may or may not have authority to make deals. They may be messengers only--but clearly are scouts for the sending country.

That was actually a good move on Ross part.
We were not allowed to start interviewing coaches until our season ended yesterday.
If Ross had a friend who is not a Dolphin employee have dinner with Gruden to see if he was interested in total control of our organization then I'm all for it.
As for Gruden turning us down...that's not a surprise. Its going to be awfully hard to convince a top tier former HC to take this job with no franchise QB.
those guys aren't looking to build a career. they are looking to win now.
I think people need to get their heads wrapped around the idea that we are going to end up with a hot coordinator and that the big fish are going to end up with teams that have young QB's with huge upside or established Franchise QB's.
Yet ANOTHER reason we need to suck it up and start swimming in the deep end of the QB gene pool.
