yeah, to go coach the rams. He's not coming here, unless Ross pays him 2x what he's worth. This job isn't as attractive as most out there. And is he really so great anyway?

OK here I go...I predict that Miami will land Cower and Luck before the next football season.

If we do land Gruden, I bet Ireland will sell the farm for Luck. It will be a "Ditka goes golfing" type of draft.

Miami is the best job available............at this moment. San Diego and the Rams will jump ahead of us if/when they open up. Ross is gonna have to open up the check book in a big way to lure one of the top guys to Miami.

Based on what? Gruden has yet to draft/develop a young QB, if anything I think his ego makes him think he can win with an average talent, ala Rich Gannon.

Those big name Coaches are only going to go to a team with a good, young, QB.

San Diego, St. Louis, teams like that.

Trust me, no big name coach wants to join a franchise with Matt Moore at the helm.

Yep! With Barkley bowing out of the draft, and with us winning our way out of the Suck for Luck lottery, it appears we're screwed yet again. The last 2 big-name NFL HC's we landed came when we already had good QBs (Shula/Griese, JJ/Marino).

With a few tweaks this team can be a winner next year WITH Matt Moore at the helm...I didn't say Superbowl or Division Champion but a winner nonetheless. We do need to draft a young QB however, but he should sit regardless of his Pre-NFL pedigree. The soonest a rookie QB should be allowed on the field is 2013.

Miami is the one team that is the most ready to win next season...and the one that will take the least work to make our new coach look very good.

Any prospective coach would be wise to think about that, long and hard, before saying no to the job.

you said "win" but not the SB or division. what's the point then? yes we can be 9-7 with matt moore and maybe get the 6th seed and blown out in the wild card round. whoop-de-doo.

I agree. Been there , done that , got the T shirt. Miami has not seen the AFC Championship in almost 2 decades. A Superbowl in almost 3, and has not won it in almost 4! Time to stop the safe thinking. Screw the 1st round lineman becuase it makes your percentage look good. We need outside the box thinking , we need a Franchise QB to lead us to the promised land. "F" field goals. Time to lead the NFL in red zone scoring again.

i would be happy with a wild card spot next year. it is much better than 0-7. i want to win the SB too but you have to walk before you can run. i want a franchise QB as much as anyone but if we get one then we should have an open QB competition in camp and play the best one. im not convinced a rookie will be an immediate upgrade to matt moore. there will be a lot of growing pains and stupid mistakes with any rookie qb

BINGO!!!

I will go even farther, Berk. With the immergence of the Bengals, the AFC will be tough...a 9-7 record will not get you in the playoffs...
but what it will get you is....

the #16 pick in the draft.

And you base that on what? When Gruden coached the Raiders, he brought in Gannon, who had already been in the league for 6 or 7 years (and out of the league for 1). When he went to the Bucs he inherited Brad Johnson, who played at least half a dozen years with the Vikings before joining the Bucs the year before. When he was with the Bucs he brought in Brian Griese and Jeff Garcia as starters. Gruden likes smart veteran QBs, especially those with mobility.

RE: The point was that we shouldn't EXPECT the team to be in the superbowl or to win the division next year...and we shouldn't do that even if we do somehow draft Luck or Griffin. Right now we should be focused on getting a winning record for a change and turing around the franchise so we build a culture of winning records again. Everything beyond that should be viewed as icing on the cake. And 9-7 is a solid start in the right direction and a great place to build upon.

obviously we are not going to be in the SB next year. But keeping Moore as the QB and/or adding late round "competition" and adding a RT will not get us there in the next 10 years either. Adding a franchise QB this offseason vastly increases the chances of making or winning a SB in the next decade, which is the goal here, right?

I based that on the fact that in today's NFL, you need a franchise QB to win. Any football person with a right mind knows that. Why in the ham biscuit would a big name coach pass over a team with a young QB to coach a team with Matt Moore?

Come on, man.

Walk before we run? Dude we have been crawling since Marino left in 2000! Time to finally stand up !! Can't do that with 3rd stringer retreads and Missed Draft picks on lineman that don't live up to promise.

As I recall, we were doing quite a bit of crawling while Dan was here.
Marino's final season was an 11-5 regular season record, division title and one play-off win followed by the infamous 62-7 thrashing at Jax. But lets take a look at the previous seasons shall we;
1999 - 9-7
1998 - 10-6
1997 - 9-7
1996 - 8-8 now where did that come from?
1995 - 9-7
1994 - 10-6
1993 - 9-7
1992 - 11-5
1991 - 8-8 there it is again
1990 - 12-4
1989 - 8-8
1988 - 6-10
1987 - 8-7
1986 - 8-8
1985 - 12-4
1984 - 14-2

4 seasons at 9-7
5 seasons with only 8 wins
1 season at 6-10

But yet 9-7 next season with Moore would be somehow unacceptable.

I just don't know why you are so negative about Moore. Yes, he can improve, and a coach like Gruden can certainly help do that. He's also been one of the top rated QBs in the league the 2nd half of the season.

RE: Absolutely, I condone us taking a QB as high as we can without giving away the farm or mortgaging the future to do it. A late round guy for competition is not something I've ever condoned as a primary option.

Moore with the right supporting cast however MAY actually get us there...there have been many non great QB's that have won superbowls. I just wouldn't put all of our eggs in his basket alone.
