Has Adrian Peterson's injury now made RB their #1 need?

Adrian Peterson tore his ACL and MCL and is expected to miss some of next season.

How could this affect the draft? Minnesota may look to trade back a few spots and pick up Trent Richardson to team up with Peterson. You could argue that RB may now be there #1 need.

I think this one injury could be a big key to the 2012 draft.

no way. He's supposed to recover, and anyway, they've got toby gerhart to played OK until AP gets healthy. RB is just not a position to spend top 10 picks on (remember Minny sucks even with AP), and they have way bigger needs. They probably go CB or OT. They can give it a season before determining whether Peterson needs to be replaced

I think it depends on how far away they think they are, and how confident they are in Ponder. I think they COULD be lured into a trade if they can get more quality players for it. They are NOT a franchise QB away from being a contender, so QB may not be #1 on their list.

AP's injury shows why it's not really smart to invest very high picks but most especially a ton of $$ in the RB position.

The #1 reason why I was livid when they passed on mallet for a RB. But I think it shows that Minny would much rather have the Picks and is willing to trade down.

you could be right about this making them more likely to trade down. RB has been added to their list of needs, but definitely not in the 1st round

That was really my point. Gerhart is a suitable, part-time replacement. But he isnt an every down back. With AP's career, and whether he will ever be the same, in question...it might make them willing to trade down due to the emergence of need at that position.

treasure i hope you're not setting yourself up for a fall. the odds of us getting both a "name" HC and franchise QB (luck or rg3) this offseason I'd say are probably about 20%, even one of them I'd say is about 50-50. Just as likely we hire a ho-hum coach and draft a RT in the 1st

our own team shows why it is not smart to trade a bunch of draft picks to trade up to get a RB

Minesota wont trade up to get a RB, they will be trading down to get him.
