dont know if you guys saw but adam schefter of espn had a list of possible miami coaches in his column.

coaches mentioned:

marc trestman- cfl sensation, offensive "genius"

mike zimmer- bengals DC

winston moss- packers assistant HC

brian schottenheimer- jets OC

jim fassel - former NYG head coach

some of those coaches would suck but trestman is interesting and i dont know anything about moss in GB.

schefter also mentions that miami will likely have to settle for a lower profile coach and wont be able to land cowher or fisher. he points to "difficult working conditions in miami". i wonder what this refers to a)ross b)ireland or c) both.

one more thing, schefter reported that some scouts he has talked to have RGIII ahead of Luck on their draft boards. that has been speculated on the board but i havent heard it confirmed by scouts before, very interesting. . .

wow that list is HORRIBLE!! If that is what we are reduced to selecting from, we may as well be the bengals or lions

That is the worst list I have ever seen.

If we hire Brian Schott as our coach...I think I would actaully throw in the towel on this franchise.

I'd rather take a "schott" at his Dad.

Oh, thats not even debatable. Marty is a great coach. Your exactly right. But his son sucks.

That list is a joke, Fisher and Billick have already said they'd listen to Miami and they're not on Schefters list?

schefter said miami wouldnt be able to lure fisher cuz of "difficult working conditions" in miami. which is BS

Seems like a realistic list. I like it.A lot of up and coming creative coordinators who would be ahead of the curve rather than old super conservative vanilla playcalling has beens.

The Trestman pick is intriguing. I might be on board with that one.

Have fun selling tickets with one of those has been/no namers.

It's Gruden or bust as far as I'm concerned.

schefter's list is bogus for no other reason than ross knows he needs a "name" (even if not the best man for the job) or else he risks losing the fan base forever (at least that is what he thinks, which is all that matters). not one of those names would excite the ticket-buyers, which is all that matters here

Yeah, I doubt Ross settles for those scrubs.

But.......he says he's looking for a "young Don Shula" meaning an unknown so maybe he's planning on hiring a "Cameron Wake" of coaching.

ross is an idiot. he says henne is like dan marino and he wants don shula for HC. he just says what he thinks sounds good without thinking at all. I doubt when he said "young don shula" he was thinking of a an up and coming coordinator. Hell Don Shula was a HC for years and had been to a SB before coming here. He could have been referring to Gruden for all we know.

Since I am compelled to agree with your first sentence, then logically that necessary concession deprives me of the ability to disagree with the rest of your post. But that was your point after all.

WINNING! That's the remedy for empty stadium seats.

During the '70s ago I would frequent Miami Hurricane games at the OB. It was empty for the most part. Even bringing in top draws like ND seats were empty. Not until the team came of age and won games did the fan base really start to support the football program. The same applies to the Dolphins now.

Winning is the remedy and to do so requires very great coaching and good play, good players and good execution of plays all the time.

Getting to that point will require a good coach and a really good QB. Two things we are must have to progress.

I agree--the Schefter list contains scrubs. We need a "name" coach. I'd be happy with B. Billick as well as J. Fisher.

I think the big issue here is that Ross is a fool. Every time he speaks he comes across as a fool. He says something nutty with childlike naivity with that goofball smile on his face. "I want a young Don Shula," comparing Henne to Marino, saying we were going to win the superbowl comign off a 7-9 season. Confidence is one thing but naive, over-the-top, flamboyant comments just make him look ridiculous and our organization ridiculous. Honestly how many organizations that win Superbowls have silly foolish owners. Robert Craft, Jim Irsay, The Rooneys, etc.... sharp people that always seem to have it together and never come across as foolish in the media. Obviously Ross is a sharp guy to get where he is, but I'm tired of his foolish comments that make him look like he knows nothing about football.

Does it really matter when Jeff Ireland is still running things?

No big name coach is coming to Miami as long as he is the GM.

Jeff hasn't been terrible in personnel moves lately but he is too arrogant to think he can win without a franchise QB....and certainly can't identify one.

If he gets lucky with a 1st round QB this year he will be fine...otherwise...bad news for us.

how do you know this? do you have sources that say no big name coach is willing to work with ireland or sources saying that ireland is hard to work with? Im just looking for clarification on this issue because I can't find sources for your statement.

Why do you assume he thinks he doesn't need a franchise QB? He flat out said he did not like the QB crop from last year. Which is exactly right, because with the exception of Newton(we had no shot) and Dalton(everyone missed on him) they all have sucked. He made the right call by not drafting a QB for the sake of drafting a QB. By the way, the QB he did pick up, Matt Moore, has played some pretty good football for us.

I have at least moderate confidence in his ability to identify a good QB based on the fact that he passed on a bunch of average to bad ones last year. As for Henne, remember that Parcells wanted him because Henne fit the "formula".

I'm not saying Ireland has been awesome but you give him some unfair and unfounded criticism in your post.
