I couldn't watch the game Sunday, so I taped it and avoided all sports media Monday and watched it last night...then find out Tony is fired.
well, I said IF they won convincingly he should stay...they didn't...some clear issues there, so this makes sense.
The turnovers weren't on Tony...but...there were some decisions that cost us the game. We relied too heavily on the pass for a stretch...then on the run...then abandoned what was working. The 4th -1 calls were ok...but the play calls weren't.
We were outcoached.
interesting that neither Nolan or Daboll getting the interim job. A bit of an indictment for Nolan.
Looks like it will be a new broom with a clean sweep this off-season.
The biggest reason we lost was not coaching decisions...it was injuries. Once Long and Carey were gone we were done. When your QB is getting people in his face after two steps no one is effective. Moore and Davis getting hurt just cemented the loss.
As for Nolan there is a report that wanted out of his contract after last year and was denied...could have had a lot to do with him not getting the interim job. I'll be suprised if Daboll keeps his job, despite the good job he's really done this year. I actually hope he gets to stay...but he won't be allowed to.
Anyway, now who do we hire and how deep do the cuts (coaches and players) get? Those are the real questions.
I was temporarily fooled about Sparano in recent weeks, but immediately reminded of why he needed to go when he went for a 55 yrd FG early in the game. You're 4-8, got a 4th and short around the 40 yrd line, up 7-0 on a gift blocked punt........grow a set and go for it Tony! It just wasn't in the man's DNA, nice guy, but he had to go.

Cam kept the DC and O-Line coach when he came in. So, you never know.
1. A quick turn is in the FINS best interest, as we get a leg up on the process and coaches know we're looking early in the off season coaching shuffle.
2. We also sent a message that this last administration nor the players didn't get. We expect to win in Miami. I hope the players are paying attention.
3. I'd love to see Nolan stay, he is good for any team. It will depend on who the new HC is and if he has someone strong. A smart HC would consider Nolan.
4. Sparano is a great guy and a super person, but needs superior talent to win, as he plays so conservatively he acts as if he has no confidence in his team.
I think he should have gone for it on all 4th and 1's. Like you said...we are out of the play-offs. If you can't take chances now?
But....Lex Hilliard is NOT Losaka Polite. If they wanted to keep that play in the playbook and use it in the crunch? they shoulda kept Losaka.
Sure Lex converted some of them...when teams were watching Thomas or Bush...but he isn't as good at that dive play as Polite.
Moore has speed as does Losman....I know Philly is supposed to have a quick D...but a play-fake dive is getting the LB's to step up. Roll-out the QB on a roll or bootleg and have a TE downblock and slant out...and one of those is open.

RE: Because I don't believe it was possile for us to win the game after we suffered the O-Line injuries. The pass rush after that was impossible for us to deal with or even slow down. Our QB's were running for thier lives and the entire offense crumbled as a result. Whether we converted the 4th and 1, punted instead of attampting the long FG, or made other decisions would not have made any difference. Then when Moore and Davis got hurt it was all over but the firings. When your QB has defenders all over him on a planned roll out after two steps...the O-Line has failed miserably. This sort of thing happened over and over again in the second half. Even a superb effort by the defense and a near superhuman effort from Reggie Bush coudn't keep us close enough to have a shot at the win.
We gave up 9 sacks, and had what, 95 yards passing...has any team ever won a game when doing that? I for one would interested to know the answer.
I think the reason why Todd Bowles got the interem tag is because he will automatically interview for the job, which ultimately fills the Rooney Rule and allows the Phins to actually get the guy they want, right away.

Sorry, but I was unimpressed with the offense we ran under Saban. Norv is nothing special. If he's such a great offensive mind, then San Diego would have one of the top offenses in the league. They don't.
My fear is that Ross is so desperate to have a 'glitzy name' that he will continue to play his cards too publicly.
the problem with that is potential candidates will use Ross's verbal diahrea to leverage deals with other teams.
I can see Cowher, Fisher, and Gruden each getting their names linked to Ross to drive up their asking price and eventually sign with Dallas ( who are sitting in the bush) or Kansas, or Jacksonville.
I hope not.
After looking at the coaching records of those 3 guys...there are no clear answers. Cowher had the best over-all success...but he wasn't the GM and Pittsburgh has a long history of good drafting and solid roster depth.
I agree with you 100% realist. Ross needs to shut up and stop leaking stuff to the press through his surrogates. It's absurd the way that every thought that pops into the guy's head gets reported by the Herald or Sun Sentinel.

But Polite's final season with the Phins was a little bit of a dropoff from his previous years' performance. As much as I like Polite (nobody was as dependable on short yardage since Csonka) I think the fact that no other team picked him up and signed him says something about his current abilities. I hope I'm wrong though, I'd like to see him suit up again next year.

Hey, I'm not commenting on the result, just the possibility.

I know....the possibility exists, but would the chemistry be there? One way to find out, I guess!
