Let me start by saying...irrespective of Moore's success and future value....we need to draft the best QB we can get our hands on.
SO right now, with 7 starts....and very little off-season and practice reps.
Moore is the 29th best QB based on total Yds. (7 starts inmpacts this)
Moore is 28th in yds per game. ( fewer games to average out the extremes)
Moore is 21st in QB rating
Moore is 9th in completion percentage.
It will be interesting to see what his numbers look like at the end of the season.
Moore is clearly improving. I don't know that he has the 'Championship' qualities you would like, but, he is looking like a starting QB. he may not be elite....but he could be a legitimate middle of the pack guy.
If we draft a young guy, and Moore starts 2012 and plays better...they will have to consider locking him up.
He has zero championship qualities and the only reason why people around here are so googely eyed is because Chad Henne was so bad. Moore is better than Henne, but still sucks.
This post comes close to what I have been thinking. Basically, the question in my mind was "why is it outside the realm of possibility to think that he might be considered a potential franchise QB at season's end?" Perhaps more poignantly, what is a franchise QB...how do you know if you have or might have one on your hands?
Interestingly to me, the 5 QBs directly ahead of Moore in QB rating were all high 1st round picks...3 being #1 overall. Of the 5 ahead of them (i.e. the top 5), only Rodgers was a 1st rounder, and he was near the bottom of the round. Beyond him, there's everyone's favorite 6th rounder, undrafted Romo, a 2nd rounder and a low 3rd rounder. 3 of those 5 have won SB(s). 2 of the next 5 have. No one below Moore has, and very few of them have even been to the SB.
Why can't Moore be one?
To be sure, I'm on board with getting a 1st-round QB in the draft, but I still think the question merits thought.
I agree, let's see what we have. I want Daboll and Sparano to act like this is our Qb and put the offense in his hands. NO trickery, no Gimmicks...just wide open football.
Who knows...if Moore plays well enough a new coach might get 'More' out of him..and sign him to an extension and then we have some options. And we can finally spend 10 years of drafts on building the talent base.
Kyle Orton had more prep, training and opportunity than Moore has. And he would have come at a higher cost.
He also would have created a new period of anticipation, trial and judgement.
We have Moore signed for next season. He knows the guys, has some chemistry...so...a new HC risks little in keeping Moore at QB while a rookie develops and a free agent signing challenges from the #2 position.
