Is that all it would take? A couple high second-rounders?

I'm sorry. I just have to step in a say that first, USC is NOT THE USC OF OLD THIS YEAR . Luck did NOT outplay Barkley but, to the contrary, given the talents and strengths of other players of the two teams, Luck was OUTPLAYED BY BARKLEY IN
THAT GAME.

Luck threw a "pick six" in the game. Barkley threw some impressive tight passes.

Luck has SUPERIOR RECEIVERS and a superior offensive line and a superior defense and still managed to only win in TRIPLE OVERTIME against an only "average to good" team and then only due to a fumble by a USC back.

This is the guy you are convinced is going to lead our team (with all its deficits) to glory?

If you saw the game, you saw that Luck tends to throw high fast balls that are uncomfortably reminiscent of a guy named Chad Henne.

He succeeds because he has gigantic 6 foot 6 inch tight ends like Coby Fleener that are fantastic receivers. Luck has thrown 23 touchdowns this year but a phenomenal 13 OF THEM WERE TO HIS TIGHT ENDS.

Luck Yet still only managed to out-yardage Barkley in passing 330 yards to 284.

Luck failed to throw A SINGLE-THREAD-THE-NEEDLE PASS.

Barkley threw several.

But Luck has a great advantage over Barkley in terms of field generalship and QB intelligence. He calls his own plays. but this being true, you have realize that in
Andrew Luck you are getting more of a Bob Griese than a Dan Marino. The only difference is that he has a little bit of Michael Vick in him in terms of taking off and running with the ball.

Hey, that could be great with a great team like Griese had but don't expect him to pull a team out of the sewer and into the clouds.

In Barkley, you are getting closer to Dan.

*******************

I really tend to agree with ChyrenB on this… In the few times I have seen Luck I am not blown away by his skill set – certainly he is NO Elway or even close to Marino.

I thought he telegraphed the pick 6 like a HS QB, and beyond that the throw was horribly inaccurate. I also saw a number of other passes where his accuracy and/or decision making was what I’d consider poor. I think the kid from OK and the USC QB have genuinely superior NFL type chops (physically as pure passers). Maybe (???) the intangibles go to Luck, but I don’t personally have sufficient info to have a viable opinion there. But from what I’ve seen, like I said I agree with the core point that Luck isn’t a ready made NFL passer superstar right out of the box – if EVER. He looks like a classic really solid player in a really great system. And lacking superior talent as a supporting cast, the kid isn’t close to the really BIG TIME franchise QB’s like Elway or Marino. But IMO, especially Marino, that kind of rock chucker is NEVER going to duplicated.

Is Luck THE DUDE to bring this franchise back? Right now I would hedge my bet on that one. And (right now, pre-combine etc.) if we end up with the #1 pick I’d look long and hard at the possibility of trading down (if a team is willing to sell the farm for Luck) and build from there.

But it’s ALL bullshit at this point because it’s a long way off…

BNF

PS: oh my god this team sucks so bad the Tune should be shot for the horrific job he did on us. It’s so beyond pathetic his titanic ego MUST BE ready to just implode…

Yo Pacells, you F*@#ED this franchise really really bad! You fat ass POS.

It dosen't matter who outplayed whom in one game...Fitzpatrick just outplayed Brady and NO ONE thinks he's a better quarterback. Montana outplayed Marino on a few occasions as did Kelly...neither one was better...

I condone splitting our eggs between the baskets of the top three quarterbacks...so we get a good prospect no matter where we end up picking.

Ok My input, Luck has good Tight Ends, but his WR's are not NFL type.(Great Receivers?? I think not) So some of those floating passes he throws to them are due to that fact. he is smart enough to know what he has around him. Plus his team is more of a run oriented team, he does not get much chance to get in rhythm, but seems to be in rhythm despite that fact. He will be a great NFL QB, he may not be Marino but he will be great. And the pick six, wasn't nice to see him do that but yet still have the confidence to go right back out there and play well and not play scared??? Those are the things that you want to see in a young QB...

Its funny that you guys are arguing over Luck, Barkley, and Jones....honestly just give me one of the 3, I dont care. Its better than what we have drafted at that position in almost 30 years.

Based on the thread title I thought this was going to be about Sage Rosenfels.

you are right his team is very! run orientated and they have the benefit if a very soft schedule. If you wanna say he is the best qb in the nation ok i can live with that opinion, but when they say he is the best prospect in 25 years and a cant miss now i am wondering how you get that from a guy that has an average arm at best and can win without him.

Ok I get ya.. You had just used my post as a quote so I took it that way.. I have always been one to say forget the draft next year I want to win today, but It is getting sickening going to every game and see a loss year after year after year, so I am trying to take on a new opinion and try to ease the blow with thinking it will pay off next year, Still its tough to see them loose and I find myself still rooting for a win... To tell you the truth If we don't get Luck just get a top rated QB in the draft, I would never trade for Luck the cost would be way to high and like you say it is possible he could not work out, give up the farm and have no QB, that would not be good... But if we get #1 we take him... As far as the week arm thing, as long as his arm is close to ave. the accuracy is most important in today's game, I remember the knock on Brady was he could not throw the long ball, week arm.. Well I will take a QB clone of him any time, Montana week arm and many more.. Now Jeff George man what an arm he could throw the ball it came close to no one but strong arm, that got him on the bench.. Ave Arm great accuracy smart guy usually = Good to Great QB
