i bet we could get lloyd for a 4th, and trade marshall for a 3d to another team. if we wanted to make the deal i'd rather do it that way. but i am fine keeping marshall or even dealing him in the offseson if we have to
Marshall has almost zero trade value. No team is going to take a $10M cap hit in 2012 to carry Marshall's contract. Except for the Dolphins, who will have to take the hit when the new regime releases Marshall.
The only hope would be some team with Super Bowl aspirations and a desperate, desperate need at WR. And even then, the 2012 cap number could still be a stumbling block.
i think lloyd is a fa after this year so that may have had something to do with it
last few big name WR trades
s holmes---5th rounder
b lloyd--6th rounder
b marshall---2 2d rounders

Thanks. No, just too discouraged, so checked out for a couple of weeks. Can't believe we have to start all over again. But, that's going to be the case.

Most know my feelings on Marshall personally. I could not stand taking on a guy with his history of violence toward women. But, from a pure football standpoint, I've always argued that he didn't fit what we needed. And that makes the move to get him and sign him long term even worse. We needed a guy who could make plays downfield. A true "X" receiver, a la Mark Duper or Irving Fryar. Marshall is a "Z" receiver who thinks he is in the "X" role. It's not that we use him wrong, or that he doesn't have a real QB in Miami. Marshall averaged 12 yards per catch in his career at Denver, and only 11 yards per catch in his last season with them. That is not what you are looking for or need from an X receiver. And then factor in that Marshall averaged about 4.5 yards after catch in Denver. So, the average pass to Marshall during his Denver career was completed 7 or 8 yards downfield. We already had Davone Bess, Anthony Fasano, and Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams working the underneath part of the field. We needed a guy to stretch the defense, and be a guy who averages 15+ yards per catch, and consistently delivers big plays. Instead, we got Marshall, who is another guy who excels at the underneath routes. The result is that the safeties cheat closer to the line, clogging the underneath routes for everyone, and bringing them closer to the line for defending the run. He doesn't fit what we needed him to do. And we were stupid for expending the resources it took to get him when he wasn't an ideal fit for what we needed. We needed a Vincent Jackson type receiver, but we settled for a possession type receiver, with bad hands, and a ton of off field baggage. And the new regime will be hamstrung by the cap hit when we cut him. We would have been much better off just drafting Hakeem Nicks in 2009, and keeping the draft picks and the money for other needs.

totally correct. it seems when we finally do make a move to fill a hole, we always pick the wrong guy. we could've had nicks over vonte davis a few years ago in a very strong WR draft. We ended up not taking a WR at all (Pat Turner doesn't count)
that monday night when arnold swartsashitter predicted the jets would win and they came back.(((((Monday night miracle remember)))..Its a really a terrible gut feeling i get when we play the jets.
