Wow!
I hope this story gets picked up by the national media...this is huge!
We can absolutely do this.
I predicted 7-9 for the season, 11-5 would be ridiculous!
Go phins.
With 4 games remaining its a little early to start talking about "controlling our own destiny" ... at least not extensively. There are a lot of other teams in the league that still control their own destiny too. It will be picked up when it is closer to season's end and it adds to the storylines of the individual games.
We as fans don't need to focus. We can sit here and speculate and drool over possibly winning the division all we want. The players and coaches are the ones who need to stay focused on one game at a time.
While still tied with NE for second place in the AFC East (and a game behind the Jets), the Fins actually control their own destiny for claiming the AFC East Crown.
If MIA and NE were to win out and the Jets were to win all but the MIA game, then each team would finish with identical 11-5 records. Based upon the 3-way tie-breaker rules, NY would be the odd man out. Head-to-head, each team would have beaten each other once. Each team would also have identical Div records of 4-2. The next tie-breaker is W-L % in common games. Of the 14 common games between the teams, MIA and NE each would have won 11/14 vs. NY's 9/14. NY would be eliminated from the tie-breaker and MIA and NE would advance to the 2-team tie-breaker format. NY's OT loss to OAK and tonight's loss to DEN would really cost them!
In the two-team format, MIA and NE would be tied in head-to-head match-up, Div record and W-L % in common games. MIA would have the edge in the 4th tie-breaker, Conf games in AFC. MIA would have an 8-4 record while NE would hold a 7-5 record, giving MIA the AFC East crown.
While highly improbable that each team will win out their remaining games, it's still nice to know that we control our own destiny for the AFC East Title and the playoffs!

And who in their right minds would EVER dare suggest this as being realistic after what we saw in training camp? What a success this season has been, and it's not over yet.
