Per Andrew & Omar phins are in the top 5 in redzone trips, but 4 for 10 on TD's, something like 22nd in efficiency which was the big question with Henne's execution & the offensive play calling
Henne has had 2 TD passes dropped by Marshall, and both were in both his hands. That would change our percentage to 6 out of 10, which is a jump of 20% because we are talking about such a small sample size. There have also been several breakdowns where Marshall runs a route that Henne is not expecting. And listening to Gruden and Jaworski on the Monday night broadcast, and Jim Miller and Rich Gannon on Sirius after the Texans game, they were all more critical of Marshall for those breakdowns. They all said that he wasn't running good routes.
There are 2 HUGE issues that need to be resolved before we become a good red zone offense. The first is that we need to establish that we are capable of running the ball into the endzone. If you cannot do that, passing becomes extraordinarily difficult. There is such limited space to work with, if you cannot at least make the defense think "run" for a second or two, you will always struggle. Ask Dan Marino about this, because he lived it in the latter stages of his career. The second thing that needs to get better is pass protection from the o-line. So far, on red zone pass attempts, you have seen one play that was intended for a TE. And that is because we have been keeping the TEs in to block. What happened on the one play where Fasano and Mastrud both went out into the pattern? Henne was hit and sacked by two defenders. Why is this important? Because, in the red zone, you need big, physical targets. You need guys with height, and guys who can carve out their own space. TEs are perfect for that. Look at Chad Pennington in 2008. Did he throw TDs to WRs? No, he didn't. Our red zone TDs under Pennington were almost all to Fasano and Martin. Right now, Henne does not have the luxury of being able to use a TE in the red zone.
DM: You got it. I agree 100%. If we're going to throw fades, those should go to the TEs, not the WRs. That's just not Marshall's game. Just because he's tall doesn't mean he's good at catching fades or jump balls. I haven't seen him do that even once since he's been here.
Hopefully Thomas can get some TDs in the redzone...and avoid fumbles. That would go a LONG way to fixing this.

haha....How many did we score 24 was it?
I think we are going to need a pro bowl defense ------and yes i mean every single player must be a pro bowl player------to hold new england to 24 points or less this year. They are loaded man.-

And the guy that Daboll mentioned when talking about red-zone issues was Charles Clay. We've heard that his quickness is a matchup problem for defenses. He also ran the ball a lot in college, so he gives you some options.
hey this tread proves a great point... when have we gotten into the red zone so frequently? we can move the ball but you cant put it on henne like montequi said... further in the redzone you have to be able to run the ball and i cant believe i am saying this but i would like to see a little just a little more running when we get into the redzone. expecially in situations like 1 and 10 at the 17. would like to see draws or te screen, shuffle pass or something dinky like that to get a cheap 8 yards
