I don't think Henne is very smart. At least, he is not smart in the sense of what you need to be smart about to play in the NFL. He may be better at multiplication than Tom Brady for all I know. The coaches however seem to think he is smarter than he is. I'm not sure who, ultimately, is to blame.

The fumble is a bad break. The play is hideous. There is no misdirection and having it in the flat on the sidelines means that Henne has to put all of his attention over there. Since Hartline is just standing there flatfooted to receive the ball there is plenty of time for the defense to react once it is thrown. This is why I'm calling out Henning, not Hartline or Henne. Why did Henne throw that ball to Hartline? Who designed that play? The fumble is on Hartline but that was a crappy play, it was clearly covered (3 Steelers on the play and no blocking set up at all) and the ball should not have gone there.
