We lacked any deep threat to take a safty off Marshall.
When we plug in Gate's and he catchs some 40 yard bombs, team's will never ever again tripple Marshall, hell he might not even get alot of double teams.
That is what Marshall was missing last year, was the lack of Deep threat which he had in Denver call Eddie Royal.
Now he will have that this year, forcing the safties back, which will open up the middle of the field, and ultimatly Marshall will be kick butt this year guarantee you will see the best performance out of Marshall this year than any other year.
I guarantee it!!! Even with Henne.
I like Gates and I hope he dominates over the top.
I still say Marshall is just a small TE. Face it, he plays like a TE!! He's tall, physical, tough to tackle, and not very fast. He also DOES have good hands...when he concentrates on the ball. I know putting on more weight wouldn't be ideal for him, but we could run a 3 WR set without a TE and run him on slants, etc.? We keep talking about how we don't have a receiving TE to compliment Fasano, but we also have one of the best slot guys in the NFL. So, why not put Bess on the field 70% of the time with Marshall and either Hartline or Gates? Then we could have Marshall split time with Fasano.
Too crazy?

No he said it himself he has been working on his speed, because of injuries lost it, due to rehabilitating, rather than working on his agility, and speed drills.
He is a 4.5 kinda guy when fully healed and in top shape.
that's pretty crazy. first, no way marshall wants to bulk up and play TE. second, he's not that kind of blocker. third, we're paying him way too much $$ to be a TE.

Eddie Royal has averaged 10.4 yards per catch for his career. He is not a deep threat by any stretch of the imagination.
And Marshall was not any different in Denver than he was for us. He is what he is, 6 catches for 70 yards a game. In fact, his yards per catch last year were quite a bit higher than his last year in Denver. And his 4 100-yd games last year tied his career high. What you saw from Marshall in 2010 is what you get.

Anyone here that is familiar with me knows I am a huge stats guy.
That being said....there are things that some stats don't measure. The differnce between marshall in denver and marshall here is....
When he was in denver he was a human highlight reel. Was on all the highlights for making big plays. He did not do that last year bc as Sol Wicotts said...henne is a 20/20 qb...he is fine between the 20's but then disappears after that.
He's already here. We made the commitment. From what I have see in the off season BM is commited. I look forward to his best year to date. He is said to be faster than he has been since coming out of college....and he didn't even play early on as much....and he was always rehabbing.
The idea is to accumulate talent not send it down the road. Besides the entire offense is being built around him according to several insiders.

He's a better blocker than any of our other WRs, and receiving TEs don't block much anyway. I'm not suggesting he bulk up at all, but that we play a 3 WR set with no TE, but have Marshall run the underneath routes a TE would normally have.
As for $$, what would YOU pay for Tony Gonzalez in his prime?
We need Gates to haul *** downfield and take a couple of db's w/ him. Right now our WR's are 'slow'. No one commands double coverage to free up the next guy. Putting Gates in a slot could open up those slant routes underneath and allow Marshall and Bess etc to do their thing.
How is Gates hauling ass downfield if he is in the slot. Bess is a great slot guy so why mess with it?
I would guess Gates is a flanker playing back from los so he doesn't get jammed as easy. He is not big like marshall who can beat the jam.
He will have his work cut out for him to beat out the very smart and shifty Hartline. Initially I see him as a kr...possibly pr who comes in on 3rd down and 4 receiver sets....unless he just explodes in camp...if we ever have one.
The longer we have to wait for camp the harder it will be for him to learn the nfl offense after coming from such a small school.
Sending Henna packing for a bag of rancid mushrooms = priceless.
I don’t get why you guys are so negative towards Brandon? I mean he’s a certified NFL player with the baggage of a typical diva type WR. Don’t worry and fuss so much. Our great leader and certified fist pumper, aka the Captain of “OK,” the not so masked crusader of play-count stats, the “Mighty Munchkin from West Haven,” and the mysterious excitable man behind the dark sun glasses, will keep Brandon in check and mate as well.
It’s all in the cards. Just read the deck. Idiots.
Ultimately, Gates needs to be a starter. We need someone to stretch the field on, pretty much, every play. The question remains who will be the possession receiver, Marshall or Hartline. Bess is our slot guy. That's not changing. Due to our expected lack of depth at RB, I'd like to see us play more 3 and 4 WR sets. Then we could get all of them on the field together.
Have to agree with Dolfanmark. The randy moss signs are there. i doubt they will release him, but you never know. Hopefully he can get it together, but ther odds are against guys like this
