But Marino was never a teammate with Fiedler and didn't know his skills.

Marino was trying to help his buddy Huard who he played with. Thank god the coaches didn't listen. Hate Fiedler all you want, he won Miami a ton of games!

So when Fiedler wins games, its the defesne. When Huard wins games its beacuse of him. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!! yeah ok! WHATEVR

They were buddies. Huard was his back-up for a bit at the end of his career. The year when Marino went down and Huard went 5-1 or so, he never bitched when Dan came back and lost us a bunch of games. Huard and him were tight. It was reported all over. Go run a google search and read up on it! eye rolling smiley

You think KC had a great defense when Huard played there? Really??

Like I said, Wannstedt won 40 games in 4 years. He made his personal mistakes, but Fiedler wasn't one of them. Huard did nothing in Miami. Left Miami and did nothing in NE. it was years later he did anything in KC. Good QB's don't have that long a stretch of "doing nothing" in this league.

Fiedler over Huard was the right call.

He won the one game he played. Not many QBs have to play behind Tom Brady. Huard has the distinction of playing behind 2 HoF QBs on 2 different teams. Fiedler got to play with the likes of Ray Lucas and Brian Griese.

I'm with you regarding the number of games Wanny won for us. I don't think Fiedler was a mistake...I just don't think Marino was wrong for backing Huard. It was like picking between a Ford Escort and a Chevy Cavalier when you wanted (and really needed) a Porsche. No one's wrong for picking one car that gets you from A to Z over the other, but when you show up to the race, you know that you have an inferior car and won't compete with the elite racers.

He did nothing in NE because he was backing up a HoF 2001 SB-winning QB, just like he was in MIA (minus Marino winning a SB, sadly).

Rich Gannon had two stretches of about 3 years each in his career before he became league MVP and led the Raiders to the Super Bowl. I won't argue that, generally, good QBs don't have long stretches of doing nothing, but it has happened. I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about or researching it...Gannon's just what came immediately to mind.

Your right. But lets just all be honset. Marino was just backing his buddy and wanted Huard to get the job cause Huard was his buddy. Nothing wrong with that either. But lets not be NAIVE and think that wasn't the case! Marino just wanted to help his buddy.

I'm good with that. I don't have a problem with Marino backing him, and I have no doubt that at least part of Marino's motivation in backing him was because of their familiarity and friendship (none of which do I have any special insight into...just assuming it was there). I also don't really have a huge problem with WannSpiel picking Fiedler over Huard. I really wish that they would have picked Brees & Boldin instead of Fletcher & Moore, but that's been beaten to death and it's spilled milk.

Good discussion.
