Free agent signings, what it means for draft strategy...
One good thing about the Boldin trade is that another WR potentially moves into the 2nd round.
They have been trying for Boldin and are flirting with Mason which sort of tells me they won't draft a top WR. Adding two WR's means that two of our own would get cut and they would have to part ways with Ginn, Bess, Camarillo or Turner.
I don't think they give up on Turner yet or Ginn but still need a WR for the future. Mason is too old to rely on for very long and even talked of retiring last year.
Going after Rolle could mean one of two things...they do not plan on drafting a top FS or they are throwing up another smoke screen. They could have low-balled Rolle knowing they wouldn't get him.
We are most likely looking at OLB for pick 12.
There are two top NT's on the market right now. Jammal Williams and Shaun Rodgers (trade) but both have a rep for being lazy, out of shape or a head case. They have not gone after any yet so NT could be a top option in the draft as well.
Shaun Rogers intrigues me a bit. I think our coaching staff COULD get a lot out of him. When motivated he is a beast. I think he is so used to losing (Det and Cleveland) that coming to a team that is at least .500 or better...he might take to that and be motivated.
I wouldn't part with a lot to get him, but for a 4th or lower....yeah I would pull the trigger.

He is dominant when healthy. Gets a lot of QB pressure and sacks. A penetrating NT as opposed to a 2 down run stopper like we have been using. Will be 31 in March. I would go as high as a 3rd for him.
He had 76 tackles and 4.5 sacks in first year as a NT. That's crazy. 7 sacks the year before as a 4-3 DT.
If the Lions add Thomas Jones that is a nice move for them. Throw him in with calvin, nate, their young TE and QB.....they are putting a lot of quality pieces together to get better quick. Van don Bosh on defense.
Still holes on the o-line and on defense but its a huge step in the right diretion
