I don't know. The logical answer is Chad isn't a kid. Maybe he doesn't want to wake up one morning in Sep or Oct and find out he has to pack up and move his family to some city he doesn't want to go to. Maybe Chad just wants to be a back-up QB in Miami and finish his career that way and wants no surprises.
Exactly, and that would all be true because trades do happen, and sign and trades happen too.
I think the Phins want him as an insurance. Bring him into camp and see how the others have developed, or what else happens in trades. If w trade Thigpen to Buffalo then Chad stays...but if Thigpen plays well in camp and we don't trade him...then Chad would be expendable and we would trade him.
obviously chad wants a "no trade" bc he knows we are loaded at the position and is worried if he and thigpen play well in the preseason, we will trade penny

WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. You said "sign and trade". That means you sign a guy and trade him immediatly. That's the definition of a "sign and trade". That ONLY happens in the NBA.
Even if I accept you clearly don't know what a "sign and trade" is...and I take your stance that you "meant" that the sign him and trade him before September. That is a sign of an older, vet, player NOT being affraid of anything. Just NOT wanting to move his family out of the blue. At a certain age you can ask for those things.

? I had no issue with what you said. Just a comment on the situation.
I don't see the big deal. GIVE HIM the no trade clause. Doesn't mean you still can't cut him.
And what trade value does Pennington have?? Almost none really. ANOTHER major shoulder surgery on an arm that was never great to begin with. At most you get a 6th or 7th round pick for him. So what are you really losing.
in my personal opinion chad has a zero chance of starting with miami, they have moved on to henne as there starter to move into the future pennington will make a good backup and positive locker room influence, he is intelligent and will be great use to influence henne and help him become a better quarterback if he stays, if not he'll do the same wherever he goes.

ha ha ha....ok. whatever bro. I know you have been in IRAQ, go see your shrink and take your meds today! Now your just making stuff up and trying to pass it off as facts.
Pennington is a free agent. That's what all teams are doing today, signing guys they hope they can trade ASAP!! Suuuuuuuuuure! OK, we get that logic
clearly there main intent is not to trade him, but they dont wanna put the no trade clause in place because they want the option to be there, come july and august if the depth at QB is there and theres no use in keeping him they would like a trade, but there resigning him with the intent to have him on the roster come september.
the guys on SIRIUS NFL Radio didn't see this as a big thing and this would get worked out according to them. If Miami wants him gone they can just cut him.
And like I said, they also mentioned he has almost NO TRADE VALUE! He's coming off a major surgery.....again. Never had a good arm to start with. What do you possibly think you will get for him in a trade? A 6th or 7th round pick? Because that's about it.
