i wouldn't mind bringing back Chambers... since leaving here he hasn't enjoyed success, however i think he could be useful. the year he spent in SD he averaged 2 catches per game, for 462 yards, ave 14 yds per catch.
id at least entertain the idea of having a Ginn/Bess/Chambers/Hartline/Camarillo rotation at wr. Figure he's not going to demand much as a f/a, what do you have to lose?

Chambers went over 1100 yds and 11 TDs here one year, and just missed 1000 with another 11 a few years before that. We have no one that will even come close to that. I would have no problem with giving him a shot.

Because he isn't any good. He doesn't make any plays, can't get open, drops balls. He's always been short and the past year or so he has had a weight problem. All in all he can't be successful anymore on the NFL level.
And if a team claims him on waviers....he will cost $4.55 mill

Who BTW beat us this year. I'm not sure I understand the logic here
a quote:
"The San Diego Chargers have released wide receiver Chris Chambers, who they acquired for a second-round pick in 2007. Chambers was demoted this week and replaced by Malcom Floyd in the starting lineup.
He’ll have to clear waivers and anyone who picks him up would owe him the remainder of his salary this year, which is $2.4 million."
If this is true maybe they don't plan to play him and would be glad to get the $2.4 M back.
WOW, I guess some of you guys don't watch many San Diego games, this aint the Chris Chambers from 2001!! I mean when a playoff team like the Chargers cuts you on Week 8 that says something. Especially when a few years ago they gave up a 2nd round pick for you!!
Chris Chambers isn't any good. He has gotten beat out by Malcom Floyd....AN UNDRAFTED ROOKIE FREE AGENT and Legedu Naanneem, a guy who played QB in college only to move to WR in the NFL. He didn't exactly lose his job to Swann and Stallworth here!!
I think we need all the help we can get in the WR position. With us giving him a chance he will have something to prove and being back in Miami will be a huge bost for him. Who knows.... sounds like a good idea to me. I would love to see Henne and Chambers connect for a TD
What incremental value would he bring and who might we cut to make room for him?
Positive value:
- maybe he can be the big target and still make the circus catches
- probably relatively inexpensive (but not as compared to other receivers on our team except Ginn)
Negatives:
- used to drop more than his fair share of passes
- never really seemed to assume much of a leadership/mentoring role
- seemed to underplay his potential
I understand that SD has younger players in the same mold, so on that hand I understand why they would consider him expendable. I worry that if he wasn't able to produce much with Rivers as his QB last and this year, then it won't be any better here.
In the end, I wouldn't be opposed to them taking a look at him, but I don't hold out much hope that he can even return to his former self at this point.
sure, sign him up! is he really any worse than camirillo, bess, and ginn? no, and he's probably better. last I checked the WRs on our team were no great shakes.
I don't see our front office cutting some young player to sign the 31 year old Chambers. And we've cleaned the coaching house since Chambers left, so we have no ties to him, no champion to herald the cause of bringing him back.
My fear is that he'll wind up in New England, and come back to haunt us.
