I freaking HATE political correctness. It is destroying this country and causing us to be the laughing stock of the world. WE ARE NOT EUROPEAN PEOPLE. We are Americans. It is time we started acting like Americans!!!
Christ, I heard exactly what he said. It was funny for any intelligent human being and not insulting. That is fact. Would they make a deal out of it if he said something about Corned Beef and Cabbage?
Dam, what the hell is happening to our Country? I'm so dam tired of the news media and the left making a deal out of nothing.
Sure I love the guy. That has nothing to do with it. This is pure bull.
Screw it. I think I might just move the the Caribbean or something and to hell with it.
I truly did not know what the reason was when I posted second on this thread.
Not EVERY Hispanic loves tacos.
Not EVERY Black loves fried chicken.
However, tacos are a STAPLE of the diet of most (well, all I can speak to is Mexican-Americans because I live out here in California and have not much experience with Cubans, Puerto Ricans, etc.)
And Fried Chicken, IS a large staple of the diet of most African-Americans.
However, if someone made a comment about Italians and spaghetti, or Greeks and Shisk ka bobs, or Germans and sausages, I doubt there would be the blow back.
Again, I am 1/16th, 1/8th, and 13/16ths of three races in no particular order, Native American, Causcasian and African American.
There is racism. And sometimes assumptions about food can be comical and sometimes comments can be racist.
But geez, not every lapse of political correctness is synonymous with George Wallace standing in the schoolhouse door and saying "segregation now, segregation tommorow and segregation forever."
bottom line is ABC/ESPN owns the airwaves in this case, and they don't want a guy spewing what could be considered as racist over their airwaves. END OF DEBATE!! Since they own those airwaves they have that right.'
of course the smart business move is for abc to suspend him. costs them nothing compared to having to take Sh*t for weeks from al sharpton. my point is, why has it come to this?
exactly, Bob has been in the TV business for years and should know better. That is why I don't feel sorry for him. This wasn't Bob's first broadcast, the guy has been doing this for decades. If he doesn't know what you can and can't get away with yet....he will never learn.
Now I think I understand why he went from working with Keith Jackson and being on the #1 team for ABC, to doing the noon "B" game on ESPN2
It sounded to me like Bob knows the guy personally. If someone knew me, they'd probably say that I'm out eating my favorite ethnic food, and it'd be a joke cuz I'm famous for LIKING IT A LOT.
If Bob did not know the guy or know nothing about him, you are close to having a case, MikeO.
But what if an Italian is known for loving Spaghetti and someone knows him and says, "Hey, where is Bob? He's late." And someone else says, "Ahhh, you know him, probably got his face in a plate full of meatballs."
I mean, if you don't know the guy and you are doing it just on his race that's one thing but if you know the guy.............
Bob doesn't know the guy beacuse when they told the race car driver what Bob Griese said about him, the driver (not a football fan obviously) asked who Bob Griese was

The bias isn't from his son. Probably from him since he went to PURDUE
No, MikeO, when Bob and I were at Purdue, Penn State was not part of the Big 10 but was independent.
We did not play Penn State in the 1965-1966 season, my freshman year, and I doubt we played then in the three prior years which were Bob's Frosh to Junior years.
We did not play every team in the Big 10 in those years so I hardly think we would have had time on the schedule to play an Independent school.
"Dam, what the hell is happening to our Country? I'm so dam tired of the news media and the left making a deal out of nothing." - Leon in Denver
I always get confused when as a fairly liberal and left-leaning individual, I completely agree with the entire ranting criticism someone makes, feeling the same way about everything they have to say, only to listen to them attribute whatever the event is and the ridiculous motivation behind it (of which we both seem to despise) to an ideology I ascribe to.
And frankly, you could just as easily say that this is the kind of "PC, G-rated, mission to disinfect the media of anything remotely offensive" kind of nonsense that starting going on almost immediately after Janet Jackson's boob showed up during that Suerbowl half-time show and conservative parents across America starting lighting themselves on fire in protest, screaming about the Apocalypse that had ensued when their gentle, sheltered children saw that horrible ethnic right boob for 3 seconds. Ever since that over-blown event, the media has been increasingly obsessed with the notion of not airing anything remotely offensive. Forced time delays for live TV anyone?
The point is, I don't think the suspension of Bob Greise for making a harmless ethnic joke on tv is so much the product of a left-wing conspiracy, as much as it is a reflection of the sensitive, overly protective, quick to be outraged parents who keep trying to control more and more of what is on TV and other forms of media.
