Roster battles

I think the main competition is at WR and CB with a few battles here and there but none as up in the air or as important.

WR....(could keep 5 or 6)
1 Ginn
2 Bess
3 Cam
4 Turner
5 Hartline
6 Fighting for the final spot...Armstrong, London & Williams

CB....(probably keep 5)

1 Will Allen
2 Sean Smith
3 Nathan Jones (played well in nickle/dime role in 08)
4 Jason Allen (has looked better than Green and Davis thus far)
5 Vontae Davis (only because he was a 1st rounder)
6 Fighting for a possible but unlikely 6th spot...Eric Green, Joey Thomas, Billingsley

Last year we kept 5 Cb's on the 53 man roster. Culver and Clemons are pretty much assured of a spot as backup safeties so that probably means we keep 5 CB's. Culver plays in the nickle and dime pretty effectively and on ST's and is a pretty good SS to backup Bell.

Joey Thomas played well in the Jax game. Jason Allen has been a huge disappointment and makes too much money. So, at CB, this is the order I see:

1. Will Allen
2. Sean Smith
3. Nathan Jones
4. Vontae Davis
5. Joey Thomas

At WR, Williams really helped himself with his kickoff returns. If he does well against Carolina, I see him making it over Armstrong. I also see London at #5 with Hartline on the practice squad:

1 Ginn
2 Bess
3 Cam
4 Turner
5 London
6 Williams

Practice Squad: Hartline

Hartline on the practice squad??????

I think he makes it over williams.. I don't wanna sound negative but IMO williams is just 2 or 3 fumbles waiting to happen. I have a bad feeling about williams and i hope i'm wrong!!!

I hope williams makes it and he becomes the next devin hester but like i said i don't know why i have a bad feeling about him...Maybe its just me.

I don't think you make the team based on one preseason game. I think Jason Allen played well enough to at least beat him out when you throw in the ST standout ability and potential to continue to grow as a CB now that he is in the same system for an additional year. I have been sour on JA but I am getting the feeling he will stick.

I don't mean to be rude but no way in hell Hartline gets waived with a chance for another team to pick him up. He would have to clear waivers before he can get put on the practice squad.

He has performed as good, if not better than Turner up to this point. I have to go back to what I was saying about not making the team based on one preseason game.

Everyone (media) seems to think Williams will make the team based on his return ability alone. I agree a lot will depend on what happens Thursday but it would be hard to waive players like Armstrong and London based on what we've seen so far from the rookie.

We need a returner but I just can't figure out why Armstrong wouldn't get a chance since he could add multiple dimensions as a WR and return specialist. There must be something there that we don't hear about. He returned punts in college for a while.

He is much further along as a WR than Williams, who may never even see the field on offense. Armstong could possibly fill in for Ted Ginn as the deep threat if something were to happen.

Another negative is that Williams is 5'8" 175 lbs.

Many questions to answer yet...

Why you guys feeling London? Williams if he returns kicks like the second half he will beat out london, Hartline is a beast, and will be ahead of turner in my mind. Turner will be for third, and goal line. Untill Turner develops better route running! I feel Hartline could contribute anywhere from day one, and personaly want him over camarillo.

I think there will be the 6th spot and Williams, returning like a beast will secure it! If you sit down and think about it special teams is the most important aspect of the team! Why you might ask, well look at field position. I would much rather have a kick returner who can get us over the 35 yard line on a consistant basis, and net over a 12 yard punt return average, than have London!

Sun Sentinel-

With Green out of the way, the Dolphins are down to seven cornerbacks in camp and likely to keep five of them. Will Billingsley and Joey Thomas appear to be long shots, so Green's departure appears to improve the chances of Nate Jones and former first-rounder Jason Allen.

You know, one thing that has not been talked about is the fact that Greg Camarillo did not have a catch in the Jax game. Did he even play?

Another possibility is that Cam's knee is regressing. Sporano did say it was wearing down a bit and that it was a reason for the elevation of Davone Bess.

*****
Cam was upgraded to first team today in place of Bess.

Perhaps they were just wanting to give him more heal time and see waht bess looked like with a full game of reps.

I thought Bess played pretty well over all.

I think we'll see all 3 Ginn, Bess and Cam in the game togehter once the season starts.

Hartline was working with the 1st team today from reports. Not that he has been moved permanently but he is getting a look.

Glad to hear Cam is ok but I still have my doubts about the knee holding up for a full season. He may not get back to 100% until the end of the season or next year. Kind of what happened to Ronnie in his first year back.

You know the bad part is that both injuries happened after int's while they were making a tackle.

I thought I saw Cam coming out of the game. You can't come out if you weren't in to begin with!
