I was at the game last night.

the player that stood out as being flat out weak was:

Eric Green cb....

He was picked on all night...

he should be cut....no questions

I agree he had a terrible game, but to cut him after one preseason game is a bit too quick. Let's see how he does in the next few games. Vontae Davis had a bad game too, but no way we cut him.

I didnt see it in Greens eyes, meaning he lost his confidence. I hope he finds it soon, or the native boy, will be looking for a new home!

he might be this years Earnest Wilford.

We signed him as a FA. He's making decent money. Too much money to cut.

Time will tell

Ireland needs to be more frugal with these signing bonuses and guaranteed money for unproven, non productive free agents.

It looks like Green's base salary in 09 is 1.2 mil with the pro-rated bonus of 1.5 mil. He has an incentive bonus of 600k which I doubt he can earn this year if he is not starting or playing a lot.

That's a 2.7 million cap hit in 09 if he stays on the team.

He gets 1.6 mil in base salary next year and the rest of his bonus would come out of next years cap...roughly 1.5 mil.

If he is cut he would still get his signing bonus which is around 3 million.

If he gets cut this year, he would cost us 3 mil against the cap and nothing next year.

So....either he plays for 2.7 mil or he gets cut for 3 mil. If he stays, we are in the same position again next year..

His contract is about that of a typical 3rd corner so at least he is not getting starters money like Wilford.

That's my assessment but I may be wrong.

Based on the Jax game, Joey Thomas should be ahead of Green. Vontae will make the team simply because he was the 1st round pick. If we keep more than 4 CBs, it will be because Nate Jones can contribute on Special Teams. So, I DO think Green will be out.

How dumb will the phins coaching staff look if they cut davis and he becomes great somewhere else. Im positive he makes the team.

When was the last time a first rounder was cut his first year anyways??

Samsam: The only thing that would make a team cut their 1st-rounder, I think, would be if he did something illegal or horribly immoral (causing a PR nightmare).
