Last year our wideouts combined for 5 tds. To put that in context, consider that there were 31 individual wide receivers in the NFL last year who had 5 or more touchdowns. Most everyone would agree that the reason our receivers didn't score a lot of touchdowns was because we lacked the redzone playmaker. In other words, we didn't have anyone big and athletic enough to go up a take the ball in confined space. This was evidenced in the first game of the season when we lobbed the ball to Ginn in the corner, only to have it picked off.

This year promises to be different. Having Turner, Hartline and London step up should make a "big difference" to our redzone offense. As it were, our TE's were productive around the goaline and you know our running backs can pound the ball with the best of them. With this added threat, we should find it easier to score touchdowns in general.

With all due respect I believe the biggest difference will be Chad Penny. Why? Because he has been healthy all off season and has had the chance to "connect" with our recievers better which makes both the recicving core and the QB better and more effective.

I am one of those who believed that our WR group was much better than advertized last season. Bess, Camarillo, and RB (BYW) have some of the best hands in this business and that core group along with Penny will only get better this year as their chemistry comes together!smileys with beer

And ....... it doesn't hurt that Turner appears to be the "real deal"!!!smiling bouncing smiley

That combined with a healthier, stronger offensive line is why we will make the jump from a #12 offense (total yards), #18 in scoring to a top 5 offense.

We had 40 TD's and 21 FG's last year. 20 Passing TD, 18 Rushing TD & 2 Defensive.

We gave up 2 return TD's & 2 Int return TD's.

We had 18 int's last year (tied for 8th in NFL) and 40 sacks (tied for 8th in NFL).

We had 99 pass defenses last year (tied for 9th).

17 FF's (11th) 12 FR's (t-10th)

We gave up 345 points (21st)

Hopefully we will see less tackles from our safeties next year and more from our front 7 with more picks from the secondary...and more FF from our ILB's.

All the above plus 3rd year for some wrs, and more time with Penny is going to maske for a whole new look to the passing game.

add in that the run will be more respected and thus th epassing game more effective.

No doubt that is my buddy DS, who knows just how much I hate the saying, "Dat's what I'm talkin' bout!" Are we still going to gather at Mulligan's?
