Well, Waddle has a new contract, but still nothing on Tua. Everyone that was eligible for an extension has received one except Tua, so unless there is something going on in the back office, I don't expect to see Tua on the field for a while.
I was actually thinking it's encouraging to get Waddle's done in terms of Tua's getting done. It's like one less variable out there. And, with it being an extension, it's really apparently like 5 yrs for $108M with the vast majority coming in future years as the cap grows. I'm thankful it's done.
For Tua, I think it'll get done in somewhat short order (say the next 1.5 months?). I don't think it will reset the market, as it shouldn't. I'd guess somewhere within the Jalen Hurts - Jared Goff range of $51M - $53M/yr...soon thereafter to be pushed down the list as others like Mahomes get adjusted, as seems to happen.
Defense. It used to win ballgames.
Now? They make it illegal to breathe near thier $50 million a year QB. So Defense is getting shoved aside. That's Miami's take anyway. Funny for a team that practically won on defense in the 70s and lives and breathes on the " perfect team has forgotten what wins ball games.

What you say is absolutely true. Defense USED TO win ball games. Now it's defensive penalties, or at least the threat of them.
In the past few years I've watched more college football than since I was a college student myself (yeah a long time ago). I was starting to really enjoy the college game, and now THAT sport is being screwed up as well.
I don't mind the NIL money so much, as these 'kids' are adults and should be able to have a....student job.... but the rules on that need to be tweaked (making a lot of NIL $? Good for you...now you need to forfeit your scholarship and give it to another kid who needs it more).
What REALLY sucks to me about the NCAA is the abuse of the transfer portal. yes they should be able to transfer...maybe once? Not play for four different teams in four years.
I also fear that the over-penalizing is also seeping into the college game.
Wow. Wasn't aware of a Transfer portal? No doubt power corrupts and college has become powerful thanks to its ratings. Great points all around.
This year my favorite team is whoever is playing the Chiefs. At all co$t$ there can not be a 3peat . #1 F Mohommes and Kelce and all thier drama( shoves a head coach with no consequences!!?)
#2 it will prove the NFL is rigged also. And I'm hoping it's not true.
I lived in KC for a number of years and somewhat admired how they achieved and handled their success (as opposed to Cheatriots) until last year.
I'm with you - they don't need to be the champs this year.
Tying to the Tua contract - that's the most maddening thing. Over the past 10 years, the teams that had Brady, Manning and Mahomes shared a 90% chance of being in the Super Bowl with the LAR/CIN SB being the only one not to feature one of those 3 QBs. I'd say each of those 3 had claim to not only being the best QB of their generation but nearly the GOAT. Surely it's not sustainable forever for the league to have 90% of the teams basically entering every season knowing that they're sharing a miniscule chance of appearing in - let alone winning - a SB relative to the team that has the league's best QB.

OH yeah, it's all the rage in the NCAA. Some of these clowns transfer every year.
When Deion Sanders took over coaching at Colorado he told something like 3/4 of the team "you better go to the transfer portal because you're all cut." He then proceeded brought his own guys in on transer, won his first three games on his way to an...ahem.... 4-8 record going 1-8 in his conference.
Saban retired from Alabama largely because of NIL and the portal. He said the kids showed up and didn't care about the game or the team. Just how much money they could make.
