I'm hearing this kid we took at 30 gives us the best backfield since surtain/Madison.
"While a surprise pick, it may be an exceptional pick for the Dolphins. Miami is back on the clock twice in the second round, beginning with the 39th overall selection."
Speaking of high character guys, these tweets from our new DB Byron Jones are fantastic....

My advice to 2020 rookies:
DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY. That number you see on your contract is fake. You will pay roughly 40% to 50% in taxes, agent fees, union dues, 401k account + necessary insurance. Also, a large portion of your contract is NOT GUARANTEED. (1/5)

Do not live a lavish lifestyle. Although your mom may deserve it, she does not need a $100,000 car. She does not need a $1,000,000 house. It is not the time yet. If you protect your money early, you can live a comfortable life forever and provide for your family. (2/5)

You can raise the standard of living for your family (top education for your kids, healthcare, low crime neighborhoods) but you must be PATIENT. Come up with a modest monthly budget, learn + see the power of compound interest as you invest, understand tax implications. (3/5)

Use the NFLPA to find credible financial advisors. Interview a few and ask honest, hard questions before you make a decision. Don’t use your uncle’s friend because he claims he can get you 50k on your tax return. (4/5)

In the wise words of Marshawn Lynch “SAVE YO CHICKEN”. Welcome to the NFL. (5/5)
5 pillars of nfl wisdom from Jones. I like that. Sounds like a guy you want in your locker room. Im glad we got him.
Also glad that someone (JC?) advised us to read Shahataty's. A good read. Reading that and a couple of other comment's from people I respect has made me more comfortable with the Tua pick. Also had to get more comfortable with the other 2.
Jackson we had to reach for. We missed out on the 3 corner stones LTs, Thomas, Becton and Wills. Jackson is good and that is my problem with him. The top 3 dominate. They want to dominate their man. Becton just wants to beat his man into the ground. I saw him pancake a Clemson DE when his team was down 23 points in the 4th qtr. Dude had nothing to play for but he was not quitting. That made me want him on my team. Jackson moves his feet well to shield and stay parallel with his man. Uses his arms well but he reminds me of usher that escorts his man away from the qb. I want my LT to punch his guy out and drag him away from my qb. I look at film and think he is capable I hope it happens.
Tua is a lefty so I think we have time to upgrade RT. Also why I suppose we did not have to prioritize getting one of the big 3 LTs.
Igbe is solid. I understand why we took him but I think there were other guts like Espenesa, Gross-Matos, Cushenberry, and Swift on the board that filled bigger needs than slot CB.
I hope we grab Cush. Like Becton that guy has made plays that I remember. The Alabama game he walks up to the line of scrimmage, scans then calls the D (they are blitzing). On the snap he drops back and picks up the blitzer coming in on the left side. Look at tape and see how many centers can do that. He is the anti Pouncey in calling out defenses. I thought that was rare. He wanted the blitzer and he took him out.
I had to stop and go read Chris' article because I'm not feeling very good about this pick. The article did make me feel a bit better, but mostly I do believe that Brian Flores, Chris Greer and the rest of the braintrust have earned my support and the chance to prove that this kid is the real thing. I hope that they succeed.
I hope so too, but for me the operative word is "develop"- these are first round picks, and I would hope that they could contribute sooner rather than later. On the other hand, even the best starting rookies across the league will need developing - but at least but they will be contributing while they learn.
I was not totally surprised that the Dolphins selected Tua. He certainly proved his talent while healthy playing for 'Bama, just pray that his recovery is still going well and that he can regain his full health in the months to come. If he does, we have found our future star QB.
Tonight we should fortify the OL and LB corps and maybe pick up a RB.
