I have heard a rumor that Donald Thomas has a torn pec and will be out until the start of the season? Anyone heard of this? Please tell me no....and this is not true.
sure seems short sighted to take Harline or that TE when we could have had the OG from OKLA.
seems like we always have these "promising" late round guards who get hurt in training camp and never play again--Toledo, Morimino, some others I am forgetting, hopefully we won't be adding Thomas to this list
We had problems opening holes for Ronnie in our base offense last year, that's why we went with the wildcat. Now the right side is going to be the exact same as last year? The only change is center, if he manages to stay injury free.

Hopefully the tear isn't as bad and/or there have been advances in medicine since 2002. I've heard optimistic reports about Camarillo and Smiley, so maybe Thomas will come back sooner than expected.

Nobody runs their draft based on trying to predict who is going to get hurt in the future. It is impossible. This staff drafts by BPA. He had one injury so it was not obvious that he was injury prone.
That's like saying we should have drafted a RB two years ago because we knew that Ronnie brown was going to be put on IR. Ridiculous.
I guess we should have reached for a player like NE did with Sebastian Vollmer in the second.
The FO knows what they have in reserves and know about the quality of offensive linemen in the draft. They are not going to reach for a guard in the second round when better talent is available. Obviously they believe they can develop lower round lineman and Alleman, Brandon Frye and Berger were better than any guard we could have gotten.
this is very disheartening. especially because, as everyone has mentioned, there were some late round SLEEEPER STEALS at the G position on the board late.
(trying not have flash-backs to the 'shitting-the-bed' of drafts past)

I am sorry eesti but you are wrong. You do draft a Offensive guard when you have two starting linemen on I.R , and a fourth round pick who is a bust.... I think Drafting Pat White in the second round was a mistake.
but you don't reach for one and no one knows what the Dolphins board looked like. Do you know for a fact that there were any guards available who graded out and are better than what we currently have?
but who are you going to believe....Mel Kiper, Walter Football or Bill Parcels?
Andy Alleman
Joe Berger
Mark Lewis
Shawn Murphy
Ikechuku Ndukwe
J.D. Quinn
Brandon Frye
I would think that one of the UFA's or another player will be our "step up" player this year ala Devone Bess.
This is only relevant if Thomas does not not come back from injury. He shouldn't be out that long for the pec injury but who knows what's next?
it was no suprise that donald brown was injury prone, he got hurt and out for the year in his fist nfl game. that said I don't think there was a guard worth taking before round 4, but it would have been nice to have d robinson there since he was the top g on the board and in supposedly the best player available. Guard was certainly more a need than taking Hartline or the Monmouth TE where we did.
Looks like Donald Thomas will be back by the start of training camp. This is great news!
Also sounds like we got us a nasty center in Jake Grove. If these two guys and Ronnie can stay healthy this year, we will have one hell of a running game.
No reason RB can't have a season like Ricky did in 02. (1800 yards/16 TD's)
I'm sorry but I can't help being excited about this year....and it's been a long time coming.
1. Jason Taylor joins a top 10 defense which should only make it stronger and reak havoc on Tom Brady, Gun shy Edwards and rookie Sanchez. THis means more Sacks and Int's for the new and faster CB's.
2. Ted Ginn going into his 3rd and key year.
3. A big target opposite Ginn in Turner.
4. The development of Bess, London, Armstrong and Hartline.
5. Chad P's 2nd year in a system he thrives in...
6. Ronnie fully healthy and in great shape.
7. A mean and nasty center who can handle big NT's.
8. Our much improved secondary with Davis, Smith and Wilson.
9. The potential of Cameron Wake.
10. A great off season training program to reduce injuries.
11. The development of our D-line and young players like Merling/KL.
12. The expanded Wildcat with Pat White.
13. The fact that if we start blowing out teams....Henne will get a look.
seems to me that parcells and co. are working off a time table (2,3,4 yrs)... this year, solidify the CBs and receiving corps. Check. Next up will be the OL (barring a major need at a dif. position.) In time fellow fin fans. Parcells knows what hes doing... Next year i guarantee we draft an OL high, possibly a RB (williams is getting old) and LB (I honestly wouldve liked to see an ILB taken somewhere this year... but something inside me says wait and see...) In time people.... In time...

The offensive line has been handled. Next year we definitely address the defensive tackle position. Along with that, we will get younger at linebacker.
