Kinda exciting for a first pre season game. Close score.
Lamar Jackson did not impress much but hey, first pro game of his career.
I was most interested in the talk at the end of the game about the "helmet contact" rule. The moderators were suggesting that BALL CARRIERS as well as tacklers are just as guilty of head to head contact.
They were saying that maybe the rule should read both ways.
I guess I just assumed that it did and did not only apply to tacklers.
The "helmet contact" rule is going to a nightmare and slow the games down even more. I am 100% for safety but having refs make calls about head positioning when they can't even decide what is a "catch" (except when its the Patriots and everything is a catch) is ridiculous.

Because there is no football going on. Wait till football starts.
RGIII was out all last year and I couldn't even tell you the last game he actually started a game.
Yes RGIII is very fragile but Lamar will not last long scrambling either. Yes he is a little bigger than RGIII but he is no Newton.
Wait the NFL is pretty much flag football now so yea it may work out for Lamar.
Okay does this make it better....Josh Woodrum out performed him. All but the TD. Better Y\A, 100% accuracy and he also had the longest run of the game.
If Lamar thinks he can run in the nfl he is going to end up on a cart. Do not know why these guys think running is the way to go. Learn the playbook, work the receivers that is the way to go. You want to run look at R GIII and Johnny football. Lotsa combined nfl success between those two.
QB's that rely on their legs eventually get hurt. It will be interesting to see how DeShaun Watson does for Houston moving forward. 2 ACL tears (one college, one pros).
Chyren, we have only been saying this for years now, so i dont think its ever going to get thru. I am just so glad we have tanny, wow to think he is described as functionally mobile lmao. would totally suck to have had draft mayfield........... he looked horrible lmao. I feel bad for hull, that poor kid had to fight every year just to make the roster and now this. hope it wasnt a bad injury.
I know for a fact that Tanne is no Tom Brady. There is only one Brady just like there is only one Marino. But to honestly say Tanne is garbage and will never help this team win is ridiculous.
Football is a team sport. One person cannot do everything. Yes Tanne needs work but he is also better than anything we have had since Marino. This team is just garbage overall but let's blame that on Tanne.
Yay....Mayfield had a decent start in the first preseason game of his careers against players who will be working at BK in a month. Doesn't NE usually go like 0-4\1-3 in the preseason. And guess what we had no shot to draft him if he went first anyways so bringing him in the conversation has no merit.
All the QB's that we could have taken were gone before we went. WTF did you what them to do??? Risk giving up other draft picks including next years one to take a flyer on someone you don't have faith in just to fill the spot...No like this team is bad at drafting or anything...wait.....NVM...
Mayfield looked pretty damn good. Two TDs. He looked poised in the pocket and moved well as the pocket was collapsing. Threw some sharp passes. I think he starts at some point during the season.
Of course he will start. The days of the QB sitting for a year are over. The money alone will force the coaches\management to play him.
I do wish him well but he was never going to be in Miami anyways. Along with the 5 other QB's picked before out pick. Reaching for Lamar at 11 would have been a huge mistake as well. Trading down and possibly taking him later could have worked. But if he was on the draft board I believe that would have happened. More glaring needs then taking a flyer on someone who I think personally will not amount to much.
Absolutely Mayfield was never going to be in Miami, we didn't have the draft capital. The model to look at is Buffalo. They had accumulated enough draft picks to leapfrog us and get the QB that they wanted and I think he will be formidable as well.
Management needs to start stockpiling draft picks for down the road when another good crop of QBs enter the draft.
We have to start thinking long term and get away from this one or two players away mentality.
How did the conversation get twisted around from Lamar Jackson to Baker Mayfield????????????????????????????????????
Yes, Mayfield was drafted first but as I remember Lamar was not drafted until the end of the first round so we could very well have drafted Lamar. Then we would have, IN HIM, a Ryan Tannehill- type quarterback LIKE HE PLAYED AT TEXAS A & M and would be a threat to the Patriots.
Now you guys are looking at our scrub back up QBs who are not fit to even hold Matt Moore's jockey strap.

"They were saying that maybe the rule should read both ways.

Confusing way of stating your opinion on this topic, but as I understand it, the rule can be applied to ANY player that uses his helmet in an inappriopriate manner to initiate contact- offense or defense.

--- Mayfield was brought up by FH and unsure why since there was no way Miami was drafting him unless he fell to 11.

---No way was Miami going to draft Lamar at 11. Never know if they tried to possibly trade down and hope to pick him up. Maybe no one was biting. Lamar a treat to the Patriots??? Belichick says thanks for the laugh!!!!

You are correct. Don't know if they would have taken them either. I do think they would have taken Mayfield honestly. But no way he was falling to 11...
This team is in such disarray I don't think having a new QB to back up Tanne (in case of injury) would even help them win more. I just don't see it anywhere on this team.
