Must have been those "non contact drills" in the rookie camp.

JT is no longer the difference maker he once was.

We are not really worried about 2009. That's the truth. We are still rebuilding.

So if JT signs with the Pats ....it won't truly impact us that much.

If he was that valuable, we would have signed him by now.

It should also be noted that JT saw most of his success playing DE in a 4-3, not OLB in a 3-4. Dom Capers didn't use the 3-4 alignment exclusively. He preferred to switch between a 4-3 and 3-4, with JT moving up to DE in the 4-3. So, I don't know how much of an impact player JT would for the Pats, or for us either. I see him as a situational player at this point during obvious passing downs.

*If* the Patsies sign JT, I can't help but wonder how he'd fare against this year's version of the Wildcat/WildPat/WhiteCat. Taking away the traditional drop-back pass scenario might make a pass rushing specialist such as what JT would be, relatively useless. Even more so if they run it to the side opposite where JT lines up.

Too bad for the young man. He was probably trying too hard to impress.

Hopefully Tom Brady has a little case of DEJA VU in pre season as well.

Sorry i couldn't resist. I dont wish injury to anybody not even my worst enamy.

But JT did win Defensive MVP playing in the hybrid 3-4 defense. Many want to write him off and say he has little left in the tank but that would be a mistake IMO.

He had a down year playing for a new team in a new system, suffered injuries and played at a TOTALLY different postion.

He still had 3.5 sacks and 9 pass defenses in 8 starts last year.

He injured his knee before the season started in a preseason game vs the Panthers. He started last year out of position at LDE still nursing an injured knee. He accumulated 1 sack, 7 tackles and 4 pass defenses before injuring his calf week 3 vs the Cardinals.

The injury was serious and could have been career threatening if he hadn't gone to the hospital for emergency surgery to have blood drained from his calf. He decided to play injured and the "stitched up" calf was slow to heal.

He played off and on for another 7 weeks (2 starts) while still nursing multiple injuries.

He started playing better and was thought to be back to his old self in week 16 against Philly where he had 2 sacks, 3 solo tackles and a FF that set up the only TD of the game at the 18 yard line, to get the 10-3 victory.

3-4 OLB or 4-3 DE, he is still one of the top 10 pass rushers in the league. He hurt himself by making...what turned out to be...a bad decision and should of concentrated on football before getting mixed up with DWTS. He is only 2.5 years older than Porter.

If he is currently working out and is dedicated 100% to football, he still has the ability to make a big impact. Other pass rushers get 10 sacks a year on average but are not game changers. JT has always been a game changer. He doesn't just sack the QB, he also strips the ball and runs it in for a TD and snags INT's. All I know is that I feel sorry for Jake Long and Chad Pennington (and us) if they have to face him twice a year.

Jake is going to be a great player. He gave up only 2.5 sacks in 08 as a rookie but he faced a bunch of declining scrubs and average DE/OLB's last year. The best he faced were Mario Williams and Terrell Suggs and I believe Mario beat Jake for 1.5 or 2 of those sacks. The other was against Terrell Suggs. (We lost both games).

I think JT will retire if the Dolphins don't sign him but I doubt we sign him unless there is an injury to an OLB.

Don't kid yourself into thinking he still can't get after the QB. I would look at the Philly game last year as more of an indicater of what he is capable of than the production he had while injured and out of position.

I agree...at least enough to get him into camp and take him off the market for now. If we find out that he has nothing left, then release him. If he wants to play for the Phins that badly, he'll sign a deal that will allow him to earn incentives and get paid well and will allow the Phins to let him go with little/no financial ramifications. If he truly has nothing left in the tank, then I don't fear him lining up with NE. But, I don't think anyone can definitively say that he has nothing left in the tank.

The Pittsburgh Steelers thought Kevin Greene didn't have much left in the tank and did not attempt to resign him after his 11th season. He went on to get 14.5, 10.5, 15 & 12 sacks in the coming seasons before retiring at age 38.

BTW...he will be coaching Clay Mathews in GB this year as OLB coach.
