Im leaning towards Derwin James, first choice is that G from Notre Dame but I think he will be gone. Have not seen a safety like James since Sean Taylor. He will make the front 7 better. He has the range, vision, hitting w/ stopping power etc. The entire package. Yep we have 2 very good safeties on our roster but this guy is a talent.
Jackson I like but will he become a pocket passer? I just don't trust a qb that likes to depend on his legs rather than his arm and eyes. I would not be disappointed if we got him.
Draft in my head right now
1 James S FSU
2 Jefferson LB TX
3 Gesicki TE PA ST
4 Falk QB WA ST
4 Adams C NC ST
6 Frazier DE MO
7 Neal DB Jville ST
7 Chunn RB Troy ST
we are really going to miss that 5th. A rb or qb is going to be there this year. Definitely a qb better (more upside) than Fales or Doughty
My draft strategy would be need and impact. Player selection would depend on how clean a prospect is skillwise, how much does he frustrate me, is he worth the money, do I want to pay him.
Impact players are QB and defense. Defense needs to be swarming.
Needs are plenty: shutdown CB because Howard cannot do it, true FS, LB replacement for Kiko/Timmons, DT replacement for Suh, he makes too much money he needs to be traded or cut, EDGE replacement for Wake. So basically needs are CB, LB, FS, DT, DE.
On offense, we need a QB, OL players with OT/G flex, need a C because Pouncey is not good for the money, WR replacement for Landry, and a short yardage RB.
The clean prospects in this years draft are: Isaiah Wynn OG/OT, Connor Williams OT/OG, Josh Rosen QB, Tremaine Edmunds LB. Those are the guys Id be happy to pay top buck for.
The next batch of guys who are close to clean prospects but have some minor issues are: Quenton Nelson OG, Mason Rudolph QB, Bradley Chubb DE, Minkah Fitz. Those are also in play based on impact.
Combining the needs, impact, and cleanliness, Id rank them in order of preference:
1. Josh Rosen QB
2. Mason Rudolph QB
3. Tremaine Edmunds LB
4. Minkah Fitzpatrick DB
5. Quenton Nelson OG
6. Isaiah Wynn OG/OT
7. Bradley Chubb DE
8. Connor Williams OT/OG

Ugh. I hope they don't waste it on a guard at number 11. Even if it were like a potential hall of fame guard- that position doesn't hold much value in my opinion. Running back either, at least not in the first 3 rounds, as I think Drake is just fine.
Here's what I'd like for number 11 or even if it is a trade down to a lower 1st :
Linebacker=YES.
Center=Yes.
Tight End= Yes.
Safety=Maybe.
O Tackle=Sure.

I dont want ANYTHING at #11. Not a guard , not a RB, Not a SUH replacement. Nothing. Na Da. I hope they continue with the ploy of wanting a QB in the Top 5. Right now we dont have the Cap space to sign a top tier QB and its really not going to improve this team at all . All Rookie QB's need to get used to the speed of a NFL defense. Our OLine Is like throwing him in a lion cage. Probably beat Tanny's sack record.
I want to drop back and gather picks. Hell give up the 1st round all together and trade again. Scour the 2-5 rounds and get some Olinemen, a RB, a Corner and a MLB missle. Maybe a QB back up project in the 4th-5th. It wont give you a draft day hard on, but it will improve this Team!!
I hear ya TC, none of us sensible guys want a repeat nightmare of hearing that we drafted the "Tedd Ginn FAMILY" at 7. Or maybe worse, the DION jordan fiasco.
Well, I think Treasure's suggestion is the worst of all. Okay, so he doesn't want to take a QB first. But he doesn't even want to take a top lineman first or a top lb or a top corner.
No, he doesn't want to take a top ANYTHING. He want a bunch of third and fourth round picks so he can have a good time picking through the garbage.
I would say LB is even more of a need than QB- Those TE's and slots and pass-catching rb's have slaughtered this team for too long.
At QB we at least have Tanny. But at LB the cupboards are bare. All we have is a bunch of slow guys with no coverage skills. Other franchises laugh at us when it comes to 3rd down and 4 or less - we are helpless.
