Houston just gave osweiller something like 17 mill a year, a total of 72 mill and a lot of it guaranteed. This all after he started only 7 games! And he didn't excel in all of said 7 games either!
I think Houston will regret signing him, and it's going to be one of the worst moves by any team going into the 2016-17 season.
Yes I do think they over paid for RT... Regardless of what other teams do, they still over payed at this point. May work out to be a Bargain, but not right now..
Tannehill has produced 3800- 4000 yrds for 3 seasons despite having a disgusting world record average 180 sacks as well.
Osweller was playing on a suberbowl caliber team just being behind center upped his stats. Lets see how he does in pathetic Houston. And guess what , if we didn't up our pay to Tannehill The Texans was Ryans next destination. If the Jets didnt pick him up. The Dolphins paid for his Market value and it made great sense to sign him. The problem is they need to give him protection. They have failed to do anything but band aid the O line for the last 3 seasons.
If you look at this seasons draft , There are NO predicted O lineman in the 1 and 2 rounds. All the O linemen are 3 & 4th round. Thats were we need to be COLLECTING picks. not giving them away.(deal with the eagles) I would love to have 4 picks in the 3rd and 4th rounds of O Guards and Tackles. I would do another swap of 13 back down to grab more picks in the middle. We need to fill holes!! The draft is where you build a Superbowl team. Not in free agency.
If Gase can work well with RT17 and the rest of this team, then we could have found ourselves a bargain with Ryan. He's the best QB we've had on this team since Dan retired but he doesn't have a magic wand. There's so many variables that can happen in every game that decides the outcome.
I think he could have developed faster had he had the right coaching staff, and yes, better players around him on the team matter too...On both sides of the ball. It takes so much more than just a great QB to make it to and win a Super Bowl.
Sam Bradford $17.5M after an injury riddled career, 19 td and 14 picks, It's actually $11M for 3 years. He's missed 17 games in 4 years. He's never thrown for 4k yards and never thrown more than 21 td's.
Brock Osweiler got $18M for 7 starts, 10 td and 6 picks. His contract is actually $12.3M for 3 years.
Kirk Cousins got franchised at 19.9M for one year fully guaranteed for 47 td's and 30 picks.
Ryan Tannehill got $19M for 63 td's and 42 picks...but actually it's $15M for 3 years. He's never missed a start in 4 years.
Good points Joe.......and I'll add he has greater upside then any of those QBs because hes not been given the support needed to be a Playoff caliber QB. He needs consistency.....not prima donna starters from other Teams and a rotating cast of patchwork Oline every year. I think it sucks they are going after yet another free agent RB. Now he has to get used to handing off to him this preseason.
On a side note, I'm shocked what the Giants paid OV. He had realistically a half season of good play out of four seasons under his belt, and they gave him starting QB money! What the hell is wrong with GMs these days.
Home: Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers
Away: Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, San Diego Chargers, LA Rams, Seattle Seahawks
The only Miami FA's we will play is Rishard Mathews for the Titans in a Miami home game.
and Mike Wallace in Baltimore. He was once again bashing his QB and team for his own poor play. Threw Bridgewater under the bus. Let's see if he has any excuses for himself with Flacco.
Fiedler was not better by any stretch of the imagination. The team was better but his best season was 3290 yards, 19 tds and 18 ints. That's pathetic!
He was also a 24 year old rookie in 1995, was out of the league for two years after that and then sat the bench for two more years before he became a starter.
He was not a 24 year old rookie who was asked to start immediately and carry the team. He had a stacked defense that helped him out quite a bit. You do remember Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Tim Bowens, Daryl Gardener, Madison and Surtain right?
Gus Ferrotte? Please. 2996, 18 tds and 13 ints...ALSO had a great defense.
Tannehill IS the best QB since Marino.
Matt Moore had a better year in his 12 starts than those guys.
Pennington...I will give you that one from an efficiency/leadership standpoint but even he never put up numbers like Tannehill has done year after. Tannehill has 3 years over 20 TD's. Chad had 1 in his entire career. He was never asked to do as much. The most attempts he ever had was in Miami when he attempted 486 passes ans still only had 19 td's. Tannehill throws almost 600 times every year.
102 career TD's for Pennington. Tannehill has 87 in his first 4 years.
The whole "deer in the headlights" thing is a bit much as well. You're talking about John Beck. Not RT.
Worst coaches, worst protection....do better.
Run the ball 500 times and limit his throws to 500 or under, play good defense, get good coaching and we are a playoff team.
Heck yeah they overpaid, and too early. They are paying $19 mil/yr for a developmental QB, and one who has a track record of 4 years as a starter and had not a winning season with the team or reached playoffs.
