Huh? The point isn't to look for head coaches that had success with multiple mediocre QBs.

The point is to look for an offensive coordinator that has had success with multiple mediocre QBs so you know then that his system and play calling are responsible, not the talent level of the team.

Because the talent level will be different, but the system and play calling will have been proven winners.

There are coaches like that. Linehan and Gailey both immediately come to mind. Both also have had and failed at head coaching opportunities.

But guys that fit that profile are the ones that I'd be looking to promote from the O/Cor ranks to head coach. Coordinators who, on more than one occasion, have taken mediocre offensive talent and made it playoff contenders.

AS much as I hate to say it, Belichick is the best coach in the league and in the running for all time. He is also the best GM/HC.

If we are speaking only about coaching and not GM duties, 2nd would be Bruce Arians.

If people want to discuss giving up draft picks for a coach, this is the only one I would give up pick for...not that it is even possible.

3rd is probably a group of coaches like....

Pete Carroll, Mike McCarthy, Marvin Lewis, John Harbaugh, Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin, Sean Payton.

Then you have some up and comers like Jack Del Rio, Bill O'Brien, Gus Bradley

and then the rest...

A few stats from Pro Football Focus:

Miami
Worst cap position at moment. Need to do something with Cameron, Grimes, Jennings and Mitchell. Maybe even Misi. They are cap killers.

Pass blocking grade OL- 24th in league
Run blocking grade OL- Last in league

LG and RG rate are some of lowest in league.

LB Sheppard is ranked 84 among LBs.

Pass Defense grade is 27th in league.

Couple of bright spots... I guess.

R.Jones- ranked 4th at position.
O.Vernon- ranked 5th at edge defenders.
D.Shelby- ranked 19 at edge defenders.

Munch on that for a bit... a new coach can't fix all that anyway.
Change must start with smart drafting and free agent pickups. Which the Dolphins have done very well the last few years... without the smart part that is.

I saw a different RT in that Monday night game. I saw him keeping his feet alive waiting for a receiver to open. I saw him going downfield more than in his four seasons with the Fins. I saw him releasing the ball much quicker. I saw him audibling. His running was hurting the Giants.

Did him being being allowed to both audible and have input into the game plan have anything to do with his improvement?

You are correct, Chryen, in that there were a few drops, and surprisingly, a couple by Landry, Mr. Sure-Hands. Granted, RT also missed on some, but at least he was getting it down the field. I believe this is the real RT, who can still improve with better protection.

Now, even with Lazor gone, Miami still stopped running when the running game was working. Miller had what, 12 carries for almost 90 yards? Ajayi was doing some damage, also. Why stop running?

This is one reason why I am not so sure Campbell will get the job next year. He is preaching toughness, running the ball...what happened? He should have demanded Miami keep running.

Another reason Miami lost to the Giants? Anybody count how many turnovers our D got? That's right...zero! A turnover here or there and the complexion of the game could have changed. Don't get me wrong; our D played well, but turnovers....

Well, Miami lost, but they played pretty well and looked damn good (uniforms).

I was agreeing with you in that RT played better, and I noted what I saw.

OH! OH! Oh! As a lawyer, I should have known better. The thing I missed was I misinterpreted the word "different RT" to be "different than you (Chyren described" as opposed to "different than he has been" which is indeed the same sentiment I was expressing.

It's funny, I think there's three of us on here that watched the game on Monday night and saw the very best of Tannehill and saw potential in him we hadn't seen before.

Phins5.0,you gotta understand. It doesn't matter what RT does or does not do, he, in the minds of many on this board, is not the guy for Miami, and that's it! The guy set an NFL record with 25 straight completions. His detractors said "Yeah, well, most of that was of the 5 yard variety." They don't take into consideration that's pretty much the way it is on offense throughout the NFL. RT hits deep passes, something he was very poor at, and..."Yeah, but he missed on some, also."

I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, it won't matter what RT does, folks believe he just doesn't belong as Miami's franchise QB.

??? and that amounts to what??? Nick Foles threw 7 TD,s in a game and I don't want him in Miami.... Now I am not looking to run RT out of town, we don't have a better option at this point, but I am all for looking for that better option..

It's my estimation that this team is not going to be good for at least 2 years, that is if we are lucky...maybe we will be competitive again some time circa 2018. That being said, it's not a bad idea to get a bad coach in here like Shula to coincide with a smart GM. As of this moment however, don't have anything in the front office that I'd write home about.

Cut the losses and get rid of all the hefty contracts and old guys--new blood is needed.

I worry about the same thing, I think Dan Campbell has the makings of a damn good coach. However, I think its clear he's not ready now. I'd like to keep him as a TE coach, but I'm not sure that would be possible.

Im afraid now that no A list coach would want anything to do with the phins. After reading that Miller is still unhappy in his role we may very well lose him in FA. Unstable line, qb, unproven rbs, no trade bait, incompetent front office.

Campbell may very well be the only person who applies for the job.

I agree with Mizzou and further, we don't want Campbell to be hired out as a Head Coach when we release him and him become some MIKE DITKA and we get stuck when another Philbin as we did when we went from Sparano being fired, Bowles being our interim (not saying he's another Ditka yet) and us then hiring Philbin. Well, Chryen, DC is going to have to have a mighty strong interview to be named the HC. He could very well do that, seeing as how he had no control over how the team was made up; this is what was handed him and he did the best he could with it. Can he go in with a strong pitch as to what personnel he wants to let go (and why), what personnel he would like to bring in, how he can attract top notch coordinators, and what went wrong with this year's team, especially after he took over. Campbell looked promising the first two games under his leadership, but since then (except for one game) the team hasn't shown much. The Chargers game was a slap in his face.

I highly doubt that Campbell will be the only guy applying for the Fins' HC job. The right coach will see what Miami has and what they need, and will welcome the challenge. He will see that Ross opens his wallet and doesn't interfere with the football side. The drawback, of course, is the FO. The guy coming in may want his own FO, or just doesn't like who is presently there.

Its going to be interesting to see what happens.

Campbell is not Bowles. Bowles skills was recognized in Dallas as an up and coming NFL DC/HC. That's why he was tagged as an assistant HC here. Campbell I am sure will learn from all of this but losing him will not be like losing Bowles imo.

All of the warning signs were there early on about Philbin. Brought in because of GB's offensive success, yet he was an O/Cor in name only.

His biggest accomplishment was making players tie their shoes and pick up their gum wrappers in the locker room. He had to have Dawn Aponte write his speeches for him, and he had to read off of index cards while giving the speeches.

Ugh. Sure, he had his supporters that said none of those things mattered, but they were all clear warning signs. Not to mention his overly conservative nature and tendency to coach scared.

Campbell has his own warning signs. Clearly evident after the Ravens victory when he (along with Tannehill) were grinning ear to ear afterwards and talked about how the game went 'exactly as planned' and how they 'expected it to go'. So you knew the Raven's offense sucked because they were playing without their LT,QB,HB,TE and WR so you knew you could stay close and hope to 'win in the end'? Ugh, what a bunch of crap. If it weren't for a phantom offensive pass interference penalty because our defender just fell down with ZERO contact, we wouldn't even have won that game!
