Didn't I see a blurp somewhere that indicated the Pats are the number one team in the NFL (overall) for scoring the last series of the first half then scoring again on the first series of the second half?

Capkoi .......we elected to receive on both tennesee and houston games and we scored first.....Why if we won the toss against new england.........knowing new england has a top of the line offense....do we give them the ball to start game....gave them the ball and momentum....

Thats a scrub coach type mistake...>Thats a joe philbin mistake...

Why change it from the houston and tennesee game......And we scored on both games to start....first drive....

Are you sure, Sam, that Miami ELECTED to receive? If so, Campbell is the only one who can answer as to why Miami elected to defer.

So there are 3 choices, kick, receive or defer. I don't know how the goal post figure in there. Maybe it's a fourth choice.

When I said that the overwhelming amount of teams choose to kick, I was inaccurate. So, OC phin I guess I never fully understood it.

But the overwhelming amount of teams do choose to DEFER. That means they get their choice in the second half of whether to kick or receive. That's the functional equivalent of choosing to receive in the second half. Probably few to none of the coin toss winners then choose to kick in the second half. But one thing's for certain, if the coin toss winner defers, the other team has no sensible option rather than to choose to receive in the first half.

This still leaves unsettled the question of whether tactically it is better to try to get an early start on your scoring or hoping to stop the other team so that you can get that second half kickoff.

To me, the sensible thing is to have the second half opening kickoff.

ChrenB if you would have the option of receiving first and get momentum in the game wouldnt you take it.......

Thats exactly what happened in both tennesee and texans game.

there are a lot of ways to look at this...

I understand where everybody is coming from when they say they want the ball on offense to start the second half......

The other teams defense should be tired and it can be an easy score...

Mainly overall the game is over........And new england was going to win anyways....

But if i was the coach i would never defer to the other team and start the game on defense.

Notice every game this year we start on defense the other team has scored a td...

Wahington TD on first overall drive
Jags TD
Jets TD
Buffalo TD
New England TD

We got the ball to start the game on offense against Tennesee......First drive by the phins....we scored a TD.....against texans first drive by pphins..>TD.

We had a choice against new england and what do we do we defer....>They go ahead and scored a td in the first drive as well...

Like i said if it aint broke dont fix it.

I want to see what they are going to do in the buffalo game...

What does everybody think?

If we win the toss should we defer or start on offense?

Thats a good topic for a poll chren?
