Some mock drafts have the lions drafting dan shelton.

Like the lions need another DT if they resign sugg

Can't see Jacksonville taking a WR in the 1st after spending a pair of #2's last year on wr's.

They also expect to get Blackmon back this year.

I feel they tried to find #1, they failed on Blackmon, the two picks last year are not the Dez Bryant type, #1 WR, they hoped to get in Blackmon. Kevin White is that WR, bonified #1, made for power offense, and their offense is a disaster. Defense is impressive.

Shelton will be picked somewhere in the top 10 picks.

Seen quite a few mocks that have Miami taking CB Trae Waynes. I don't have a problem with that.

Aaron Donald wasn't picked top 10 last year and he had better tape and combine, miles better, like 2 draft rounds better than Shelton.

Two teams in the Super Bowl last year and neither of them had a Dez Bryant #1 type Alpha WR.

Besides, what if Lee and Robinson turn into the studs they thought they were when they drafted them last year.

Then you have Robinson, Lee, Blackmon and White. That's just bad allocation of resources.

Pats are a 600 attempts team, they basically play spread, they drive with short passing spreading the ball. (Their bonified #1 is Gronk, he just rarely lines up at boundary.)

SEA is power team that could benefit from #1 but their offense is different than traditional power formation. They rely on Russell Wilson to run. No one in the league has that type of QB.

Offenses in this year's superbowl are peculiar offense and not something to be dangled as an example for general rule.

Could we go for Dorial Green beckham after the combine? if Seattle gets a #1 Marshall? they are going to be tough

Beasley and Dupree were impressive

You state that as if it's fact. If I've learned anything over the years, it's that nothing in the draft is a constant. Lots of hype at the combine around Shelton but I also heard some knocks on him....

1. May not be a 3 down player. That makes him less valuable than a player like Donald or obviously, Leo Williams. You're going to spend a top 10 pick for a guy who could get 400 snaps per year?

2. Lacks explosion and doesn't carry much power in his legs for as big as they are. Vertical and broad jump showed this. He also ran a 5.64 40. Other big men at his position ran a lot better. Ngata & Wilfork ran in the 5.02 to 5.1 range. Dontari Poe ran a 4.98. Even Paul Soliai ran a 5.02.

Comparisons to Ngata are pretty optimistic IMO. Shelton carries a lot of weigh in his gut. Looked like it was an anchor when he tried to jump or run.

Jeremiah's latest mock had Malcomb Brown going ahead of Shelton (NYG) because he's a 3 down player.Shelton was not in his top 10.

Jeremiah's latest from path to the draft....

1. Bucs- Jameis Winston
2. Titans- Leonard Williams
3. Jags- Dante Fowler
4. Raiders- Kevin White
5. Skins- Shane Ray
6. Jets- Trae Waynes
7. Bears- Vic Beasley
8. Falcons- Randy Gregory
9. Giants- Malcom Brown
10. Rams- Marcus Mariotta

He also prefaced this to say he thinks if Tennessee passes on Mariota then several teams will be trying to trade up.

Agreed, anything can happen in the draft (i.e., Marino).

I also saw where Shelton was not in DJ's top 10, however, just about every other mock draft has him in the top 10, with the majority of them having Chicago getting Shelton.

We'll see.

Potential to go top 13

(5) Pass Rushers: Fowler, Beasley, Dupree, Gregory, Ray,

(4) DL: Williams, Brown, Shelton, Armstead

(1) CB: Waynes

(2) QB: Winston, Mariota

(3) OL: Humphries, Scherff, Peat

(3) WR: Cooper, White, Parker

(1) Safety: Collins

(2) RB: Gurley, Gordan

That's 21 players so we should have our choice of 7 of those guys. 8 if Atlanta gets fined.

Take 3 off the list. Both QB's and Williams are for sure gone and we are not in the market for Armstead.

I want any of these....

1A Beasley, Fowler, Cooper, White

1B Shelton, Parker

1C Gordan, Waynes

1D Scherff, Brown,

Could we drop back with Cleveland at 19 and pick up their second? Grab a Strong, Jalen Collins, Landon Collins or Shaq Thompson and in the second two of Ronald Darby, DGB. Kopuandjio, McKinney, Ajayi or Dorsett?

Yuck. I just threw up in my mouth a little... smiling bouncing smiley

We just signed 2 dwarf CB's. I don't think we spend a #1 in a weak CB draft.

Malcom Brown, Todd Gurley, Le'al Collins, Jaleen Strong

Looks like Tennessee cleared things up a bit on their pick at 2. They just signed Brian Arakpo and re-signed Derrick Morgan as their edge rushers. If it's not Mariota (and it's probably not), it's Williams.

If all the edge guys (4) and WR's (3) are gone, I would be ok with a trade down. I think the talent level drops around pick 11 or 12 depending on surprise picks.

I am off DGB for anything earlier than a 2nd. Questions about work ethic and laziness....scary.

Not sure how I feel about drafting a RB who could miss most of the season. I would go with Gordan for Miami anyway.

I would be ok trading down for an o-lineman or WR.

Late 1st, early 2nd is the same thing to me. If we traded down to the 25-32 range, I'm fine with taking a guy like DGB there. The extra 2nd round pick mitigates the risk. It allows me to double down with another WR like Philip Dorsett or Justin Hardy.

Could be.

I don't have access to the character assessments and background checks, so I'm not going to make judgments based rumors.

My understanding of the violence issue was that he shoved a girl at a frat party as a freshman or something along those lines.

That's not a reason to take him off my board.

Based in his skillset and our need, I have no problems trading down and taking the "risk" selecting him.

Two years ago, I'd agree that we wouldn't have him on our board, but we've brought in plenty of guys with off the field issues in the last year or two. That's not to say that there arent issues that would disqualify a guy from our board, just that you don't have to have a perfect record to get a shot with this team.

More developments today that affect draft...for instance will will not be taking a WR unless Clay bolts.

1 TB: Jameis Winston, QB
2 Ten: Leonard Williams, DT
3 Jax: Dante Fowler, DE
4 Oak: Amari Cooper, WR
5 Was: Vic Beasley, DE
6 NYJ: Randy Gregory, OLB
7 Chi: Dan Shelton, NT
8 Atl: Shane Ray, DE
9 NYG: DJ Humphries, OT
10 StL: Kevin White, WR
11 Min: Davante Parker, WR
12 Cle: Marcus Mariota, QB
13 NO: Bud Dupree, OLB
14 Mia: Nowut Jagunna Do, OW

At this point what are you going to do?

Needs at FS, CB, OL, LB,

Luxury pick for lesser need at RB, WR, DT, DE if a player there is far and above a better talent than your needs....

CB: Trae Waynes: Most say an instant starter with top 10 potential. Not many else grade high enough for 14. Jalen Collins is just a bit of a reach maybe.

FS: Landon Collins: More of an in the box SS but only safety worthy of 1st round, may be ok at FS.

OG/OT....Brandon Scherff, La'el Collins are guards that could play OT if needed. More raw prospects in TJ Clemmings, Andrus Pete or Ereck Flowers

LB: reach for Kendricks or Anthony? None of the rest are 1st rounders.

DT: Malcomb Brown: would give us a great shot of dominating the middle and make our LB's even better.

RB: sure fire, top 10, day one starter in Melvin Gordon. Wait til mid-season Todd Gurley who is best back in draft and top 10 talent.

WR: we don't have a need if we sign Clay.

DE: None really left except Arik Armstead and he is more of a 3-4 DE.

or trade down? Once again we find ourselves right on the cusp of talent drop-off.

Personally, for me it is between La'el Collins to get us better on the o-line or going with a top 10 value AND huge need in Trae Waynes. I would love Gordan but it's a luxury pick. Unless I have him rated far and above everyone else.

Why has Kevin White dropped? Just curious...you have White to Oakland in the first post in the thread and Cooper taking that spot now.

Maybe its just me, but there are no FS's or CB's I'm considering at 14.

I disagree on the WR need. In fact, I still consider it a priority (1st 2nd round)

Our #3wr right now is Rishard Matthews.

We need another guy capable of starting and being an impact guy.

Doesn't need to be at 14, but still a need.

If we signed a guy in free agency then wr is set.

Blech...

Not risking the 14th pick hoping I can turn an apple into an orange.

I like Scherff. He answers our LG question, and between him and Billy Turner I think we might have LT locked up after Albert is done.

I'm a Flowers fan also because I think he's a LT down the road.

I wouldn't take a true guard in this spot.

No.

Love Brown. If we took him I'd be fine with it. Wake might get 25 sacks with him and Suh in the middle.

Gurley is a grand slam or a strike out. Depends on the knee.

Gordon is good but I think there is less separation between him and the next group than there is between him and Gurley (if healthy).

need one more.

Dupree if he's there.

I'm good with it. Always like more picks.

I don't think any of them are our best option at 14.

Malcom Brown, Todd Gurley, Top 4 wr, Vic Beasley, dupree, trade down.

I would like to put Brown next to Suh but we have enough DTs. I really think Gordon is going to be there at #14 so we should grab him.

A straight draft w/ no trade scenarios could look like:

1 Gordon RB WI
2 Anthony LB Clemson
4 Finney C KS State
5 Mayle WR WA St
5 Brown T/G Louisville
6 Crawford DE Clemson
