I read a tweet from Omar where he answered a question about Landry and what his ceiling is....
He simply said "OJ McDuffie".
Do you agree or do you think he has a higher upside?
I liked OJ but he was the prototype possession receiver of his day. He was not a big play receiver for the most part. His best season, he led the NFL in receptions (down year) with 90. He had 1,050 yards and 7 TD's. He had a 4 year run where he ranged from 819 to 1050 yards. He had 24 TD's over that span (6 TD avg).
In years one and two he had 197/0 and 488/3.
Landry, out of the box, is on pace to eclipse those numbers. He was basically a #4 receiver behind Gibson until game 6 when he took over the slot. If you project his season and use the 8 games he has actually played a larger role in, he would have numbers in the vicinity of 800 yards and 6 TD's. That's pretty good for a rookie #3 receiver.
Personally, I think his ceiling is a little higher than OJ's. I like his yac ability and he has also shown some big play ability. (Not the long bombs but the ability to make a play at critical times as well.)
I think his ceiling is higher than Hartline's and will take over the #2 spot unless they decide to keep utilizing him as a slot specialist. Also an excellent return guy who is ready to break a long one.
I don't think there is any way they pay Hartline 7.35 mil next year with Landry on the roster. Not when they can release him with no dead money and save that entire mount on the cap. As much as I like him, he has just NEVER produced enough TD's.
They will also not be honoring the contract of Brandon Gibson at 4.2 mil next year. Releasing him would still cost us 1 mil.
They will probably both be gone as Hickey looks for a red zone target next year. We are stuck with Wallace unless they can get him to rework his deal. He gets 12.1 mil next year.

Mike Wallace can run faster than Landry backwards.
I sure can't make a valid comparison to McDuffie; don't know who I'd compare him to at this point. Let's hope the day comes when people compare rookies to him, or better yet, make a comparison with players who's numbers are retired. It's way too early. He's certainly exciting to watch whenever he gets his mitts on the ball and makes plays. No complaints about him whatsoever. A 2 thumbs up on his play and selection in the draft.
He has the ability for "YAC". That's yards after catch........he not only has great hands and can catch , he breaks a tackles and turns nothing into something. He does this receiving and on special teams.
OJ Mcduffy is such a lame answer. What does that actually mean? Is it a knock on Laundry or praise? I expect nothing more from Omar.
I didn't Knock OJ McDuffie one bit. But he was a first down machine. Laundry is so much more. He is a beast to take down. One on one he almost always breaks it.

That's just it! Good point! This is his rookie season. he is basically all balls and fir right now. When he starts to learn technique and is more in synch with the new offense.....he will be lethal.
Now I will tell you who reminds me of Oronde but with more athleticism. That kid Hazel. I am eager to see what he has learned on the practice squad in 2015. I think he has game as well as Hoskins. In college Hoskins imposed his will on defenses He seems to have the gift to find open spots. We did good w/ rookies this year in drafting and in non drafted.
