That's another reason why good teams build through the draft. Building through the draft and replacing players (who leave via free agency) through the draft is a self-perpetuating cycle. The more you do it - the more picks you get.
This year the Pats have 3 compensatory picks; the Titans have 4; the Colts and Steelers both have 1. Even the Cowboys have 2. Four of the compensatory picks awarded this year come at the end of round 3. Four more come at the end of round 4. Those are valuable picks.
It seems like the Pats get additional picks every year. That is where we need to be.

This compensatory rule is a bunch of crap. No way should you get rewarded for not resigning your own players. Especially with a 3rd round or top 100 pick. Signing your own players is all a part of the game. Now you can let them walk in FA and reap the benefits of a trade? Total BS...Who did the Pats lose last year other than some average players? Asante Samuel? Big deal.
