Philbin has this upcoming season to prove it was Sherman and Irelands fault IMO, no way I give him 2 more years
And there is plenty of good coaching candidates available

Political posts are for political message boards.

Rare exceptions are made for team-related issues, such as ownership's requests for tax breaks being voted on in state legislature, etc.

But for the most part, political-crap belongs on crap-political message boards, not this one.

JC I agree with you 100% But if I may add one comment to the above?

Philbin has much more in common with Bill Clinton.

EDIT: There...that's your one comment. Glad you agree 100%

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I agree, dolphaholic - one more year to prove himself. His last two games of last season must be included in his evaluation. He has to win this year, or at the least, keep the Fins in every game (unlike the last two last year).

Ross will be dangling money in every coaching candidate's face, so there won't be too much of a problem in hiring a new coach; just depends on who it is whether they would want to coach Miami or they have other reasons why they wish to go elsewhere.

WTF was Hickey thinking guaranteeing C Finnegan 5.5mm for this year? He was ranked 2d to last among all CBs in the entire league. And he represented himself in the negotiations. I can see signing him for like 2mm per year but the money they gave him is outrageous given his declining play, horrible last year and oft injured. THere are better DBs we could have gotten for that money. Or at least ones as good for much less

First really dumb move from the new GM, reminds me of the head scratching contract Ireland gave Wheeler

Agreed, berk.

Hickey played it smart with all his moves, until he got to Finnegan. I said it earlier, that I wouldn't mind Miami signing him to a dirt cheap contract and let him earn his next contract. Put him in the mix with the rest of the DBs that will be competing for the job, and see what happens.

But, signing him to that contract, it is almost a must that Miami hand him the starting job. That will be pretty crazy if Taylor or someone else beats him out for the job, and Miami then has a $5M player sitting on the bench.

Wasted money, IMO.

It really doesn't bother me.

Outside of a couple of guys who are no-brainers all FA's are risky to some degree or another.

Finnegan was a very good player before the injuries. If you think he's healthy again then there's not a ton of risk on what is essentially a 1 year contract with 1 mill in dead money next year if he doesn't see year two.

Wheeler is very different. His contract is a disaster.

It was 5 years/$13m guaranteed... with 10.6m in dead money (this year) if he's cut after year one.

Both may end up being bad decisions personnel-wise, but there is nothing similar about the impact each signing had on our cap situation.

we way overpaid on finnegan though, no one else would give him close to that $$. and we are stuck with him at a big number this year even if he sucks given the guaranteed $$ this year
he was something like 119 of 120 CBs last year, pretty hard to be much worse

Could be.

It will either work out for Hickey, or it will be the first thing people point to when they call for his head.

Finnegan was good enough when healthy to warrant much more than what we gave him.

If Hickey is right, and that's the player we get, then its a bargain.

If he's wrong, its a one year waste of money we had to spend.

If we were up against the cap I'd probably be worried about it. But we aren't and since we have 20mill left to spend, and its not a long term nightmare like Wheeler's deal, I'm not going to prejudge the move.
