I was following the Twitter updates for most of the scrimmage, I am encouraged by what I was reading, still a little worried about protection for T-Hill, was Jordan looking that good? or was Martin looking that bad? hope it was the former.
Either way, what a difference a few years has made, wasn't it this scrimmage when fans were out booing Henne one year? 20K is a big turnout for a scrimmage.
Just for perspective on all of the TD's scored... All of Tannehill's TD's were redzone drills against our second team defense... None of Tannehill's TD's were scored against any of our starters... The team obviously wanted the headlines to be Tannehill scored lots of TD's.... He did, but the setup was a bit misleading as well IMO....

socal- I am just being honest about it, it was a topic on the DOlphin's owned Finsiders today, what Tannehill did as far as TD's was not against the starters, stated clearly by Dolphins employee Jesse Agler... I wasn't there, and the way it all came across in the press was Tannehill was lighting up our defense, which happened to be the best red zone defense in the entire league last year... That was not the case he played well against our second team.... That is heads and tales different then the way his performance was being touted... Nothing to do with Ireland... If the facts hurt then the facts hurt, to me I would rather have honest facts then delusions of grandeur... If it makes you feel better to think Tannehill was throwing TD's at will against the best red zone defense in the league last year, more power to you, to each his own... I wouldnt say that is dirt throwing, just taking the mask off...
But you are correct that he did it with mainly 2nd team WR's other then Gibson. Although Gibson was the only WR that caught a TD.... But any positive production is better then negative production, absolutely... Hell Matt Moore gave up a pick 6 to the 2nd or 3rd team safety... Tannehill could be a star QB and still go 10 percent in redzone drills against our red zone defense and i would think nothing less of him... There is a reason they were #1...

eesti- last year our defense or total defense was not rated that high (21) , because we gave up to many big plays in the passing game, and didnt create enough turnovers...We were 27th against the pass and 13th against the run(against the run we were pretty good) and 7th in sacks which is pretty good, But we were top notch at redzone, which put us as the 7th best defense as far as points allowed.. I hope and think we can put it all together this year as you, and improve, if Ellerbe and Wheeler hold up and pan out... And if Grimes can stay healthy... We never really had a #1 CB last year and that hurt us.. Grimes in camp at least has shown that ability... I think our offense is probably practicing against what could be a top ten defense or even higher this year.. IMO the most important stat is points allowed, if we can keep that stat low, we should be in every ball game this year...
The only teams defenses who really embarrassed us last year, was the 37-3 against the Titans ranked 27th and the only shut out of us all year game 16 against NE ranked 25 as you said... We moved the ball pretty well at times against solid defenses, hell we beat Seattle(4), Cincinnati(6), the Jets(8), all top ten defenses, and ST Louis at 14, last year... It is hard to tell, you would have thought we would have struggled against those top defenses and done well against the Titans and Patriots...

Yes our defense fell way down in the yardage rankings because of a few bad games (NE etc, due to injury) vs the run and a season with terrible CB play.
I can see our secondary improving from the 27th ranked team vs the pass to a top 12 ranking and probably move from 21st overall to somewhere in the 6-10 range. I think we will be in the top 5 in points allowed.
Some wishfull (homer) thinking but it is very possible if we stay healthy and Grimes can play out the season. At some point the rookie CB will make an impact I hope. Sounds like Jones is getting pushed by a good camp from McCray and other spot have good competition and depth.
I can't wait to see how this defense shapes up and how players will be used....Vernon, Jordan etc.

I hope your right eesti! I love the defensive side of the ball. I could watch Zack Thomas all day over a Ricky Williams , or a Brandon Marshall. Jones, Wake, Starks, should all be fantastic. The biggest differences should be Brent grimes and Taylor at Cornerback and Philip Wheeler and Ellerbe at Linebacker. really looking forward to see what they can do. Dion Jordon would just be a huge bonus at this point if he starts.
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Taylor back in full participation at practice but today was no pads.
Word is Will Davis is tearing it up. Had 3 picks today. Could this be same situation as when we drafted Smith and Vontae? 2nd player picked starts earlier than the first CB picked?
Marshall, Grimes and Patterson are still working 1st team nickle defense.

I can't see Davis working his way to #2 by the end of camp but anything is possible
I still think Taylor is going to be a great player for us. I had no idea about Davis. I believe I said he was the wildcard/key to our draft after it finished up.
If he's a player, then Ireland did a very good job at the draft.
If he's not then he blew it trading up for him.
Early returns look good. Perhaps Ireland got lucky.

Not really. He was talking, as usual, in the hypothetical alternative. He didn't say "Ireland blew it."
