Amendola is the hidden gem!!!!!

This guy is unrestricted... And available probably at 4-5 million a year.
He was by for the most dangerous player the rams had...

He is Wes welker on steroids....and he is a red zone threat.

I'd rather sign him than Hartline.... And then try to sign wallace or draft tavon Austin or swope...

I love Hartline...but amendola is more dangerous and a serious gamer..

Not sure if anyone has followed this guy ....he is a true football player...tough as they come.

I would be ecstatic if they sin him!

He's smaller, lighter, slower and MUCH less productive. He has never sniffed a 1k season and averages 10 yard per reception. Hartline averaged 15 for his career and over 16 at one point. Amendola is a possession receiver like Bess, only less productive. AND to top it all off...he is injury prone. 17 starts in 4 years???? Averages 10.5 games a year.

Welker on steroids? He is a poor mans version of Wes Welker. He's not even in the same stratosphere.

He was an efficient WR last year when he could make it on the field but let's get serious.

I'll take Hartline any day over Danny "Amen I didn't get hurt".

Hidden gem? Hidden in the training room.

If you go simply by stats...then you are correct.

Pros...has a nose for end zone..had 3 TDs last season in 11 games.
In 11 games had 63 receptions for 666 yards...he was on pace for 90+ receptions and 1000+ yards...
He played hurt for at least 5 games and still posted those stats.
He is also one tough dude... His injuries are mostly due to playing on artificial turf....south Florida's natural grass field will help him stay healthy.
Because he never had a 1000 yard season yet...We can sign him for at least 2 million less than Hartline...

I like Hartline... But I wouldn't be disappointed to get amendola instead...

Danny Amendola has averaged 8.8 yards per catch for his career. 8.8! That's less than 9! Have you ever seen a WR with a worse per catch average?

He has a nose for the endzone? He has 7 TDs in 4 seasons.

He's missed 20 games the last 2 seasons.

Danny Amendola is an injury prone poor man's Davone Bess, and does nothing to address our needs at the WR position.

Amendola only claim to fame was Hard Knocks with the Dallas Cowboys as undrafted free agent. Sorry, NO THANKS!

Having a true #1 receiver will only help Hartline. He has great straight-line speed, makes difficult catches and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Hopefully now that he gets a contract none of that changes. I hope he didn't get as much money as has been reported but he a worker and fits into the Philbin system. We'll see!

The Patriots plan to sign Amendola next week to replace Welker.

Amendola = Devonne Bess

They are slot Wr's who are best when they are 3rd on the depth chart and have guys on the outside to draw attention and create space for them to operate.

They are $3-4M players.

Hartline is better.

If they do that, it'll be because they couldn't keep Welker from leaving.

It was already reported by Adam Shefter that Welker will explore the FA market and not resign with NE...unless it is later in the off season. He is as good as gone IMO.

We need a redzone WR more then anything, as others said that is not a slot guy.. We by far had the worst production by WR in the red zone in the entire NFL.. And I can tell you that without even looking it up.. We maybe at best had 3 WR redzone TD's all season and most likely the number is closer to one... One of the reasons I am concerned about Wallace, he is not really a red zone WR threat either... So Amendola, no thanks, he would play 2nd string behind out other slot guys Hartline and Bess..

It would be great if the Pats let Welker leave and signed Amendola. Amendola is slower, not as quick, and not as durable. We can only hope that this happens. Unless of course, the money saved allows them to also sign Mike Wallace.

8.8 yards per catch for his career. For his career. Let that sink in a bit. And try to appreciate how bad that is. And factor his run after catch yards. When you do that, then you realize that the average pass to him is about 4 yards downfield.

Like I said, stats don't tell the whole story. Maybe his average catch is 4 yards downfield. I would suggest that the brutal Rams offensive line plays a large part in that statistic. Bradford has to throw the ball almost immediately. Receivers can't run deep routes; there just isn't time for the route to develop. I don't love Amendola, so I really don't want to debate the subject; but if you watch him play you will have a higher view of him then if you simply look at his stats.

I guess that could have been said of Welker when he was a Dolphin.

Dolfan Mark,

Dude if you only went by statistics then Wes Welker would
be a nobody according to you... He Caught 437 and 687 yards in his first two seasons...so does that equate to him sucking?

I personally watched amendola play a bunch of games early last season before he got injured.... Dude...the guy is a gamer... He is one player that I want on my team. His injury at the midpoint of the season was bad luck... The guy has incredible hands...
He is a perfect fit for the west coast offense.

Dude..stop just focusing on the stats...there are many factors that determine how many catches a receiver gets in a season...

If amendola signs with new england...we are seriously screwed!!

If the Pats dropped Welker and picked up Armendola, and particularly if Welker came here, I would be happy. You are right that statistics aren't everything but that does not support your point.

Whenever the Pats are in a crucial 3rd down situation, who saves their bacon, Wes Welker.

Yeah there was some bitching and moaning about the last SB they were in but the reality of the situation is that Welker saved them out of about 90% of their crucial situation.

NOW GO BACK IN HISTORY, if not here then on the Miami Dolphins.com chatboard when they had it, I bitched and moaned about us releasing Welker because he did the same damn thing for us. I don't know or care what the stats were, whenever we needed a crucial third down reception, Welker got free and provided it.

The Patriots saw that in him and went after him with all four feet.

Successful football players that go down in history don't always go down because of stats but because of highlight performances.

I have seen many from Welker and none from Armendola.

Amendola is an inferior version of Davone Bess, who is an inferior version of Wes Welker. Find me one good WR in the last 40 years of the NFL with a yards per catch average of less than 9 yards per catch over the first four years of his career.

Here's the worst part about the "sign Amendola" argument. He only plays the slot WR position. We have a better slot WR under contract in Davone Bess. If we signed Amendola, we'd be stuck with two slot WRs, and not have anyone to play the X or Z position.

We need a guy who can stretch the defense vertically. Is that Amendola? Obviously not. We need a guy who is a factor in the redzone. Is that Amendola? No, he has just 7 TDs in 4 seasons. It would make no sense whatsoever to sign him. None.

I would take Amendola over Bess or Hartline at $6M a year

Re: Amendola is the hidden gem!!!!!

I would not sign Amendola as my top offseason WR acquisition. That has to come from one of the big name FAs or via the draft. However I would love to have him in the slot. In fact, I wouldn't be disappointed if we cut Bess and signed Amendola. Is it a gamble? Yes; but as much as a like Bess, he is not a game changer.

Re: Amendola is the hidden gem!!!!!

Amendola is not a game changer either. This falls under the same theory I have been preaching for years. You don't sign someone (for anything other than the league minimum pay) and expect them to be something they have never been....In this case "something" means "healthy". Jake Grove, Justin Smiley, etc

Amendola isn't exactly what I would call hidden either. Bryan McCann, now he is a hidden gem. 4.2 speed, up and comer.

How so?

Bess 4.2 catches per game
Amendola 4.7 catches per game
Of course, Amendola never had to play with Brandon Marshall, who fot 130 targets per year, and took away opportunities from Bess.

Bess 10.7 yards per catch
Amendola 8.8 yards per catch
That means Bess averages 21.5% more per catch.

Bess 44.8 yards per game
Amendola 41.1 yards per game

Bess 1 TD every 6.4 catches
Amendola 1 TD every 6.0 catches

There is nothing to back up that he makes "much more of an impact" than Bess.

You do realize there are different WR positions, right? You do realize that Amendola is not capable of playing the X or Z position, right?

Re: Amendola is the hidden gem!!!!!

You obviously have your opinion. That is fine. Mine is different from yours. I like him as a player, and everything I have read agrees with Amendola being a very talented player. Honestly, have you watched Amendola play?

Like I said, I would want him in the slot. Not out wide.

Also, did you look at the PFF grades? He grades very highly. And the Free Agent rankings are not based on X, Z or slot.
