This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
Okay, Cap and others, let me try a different angle.
I think that the most critical need besides WR is Dback. However, I think you best get a dback in free agency.
Next up to bat...........defensive lineman.
Mostly every mock draft I have seen have had all the stellar defensive linemen going in the top 10.
The diamond in the rough is, in my opinion, Kawaan Short where few mocks have had him even going in the first round.
The mock drafts also have the very few highly rated OLs going in the first 10.
So no matter what, it seems that the only BPA at a position of need that we can get at number 12 is wide receiver, Corradelle Patterson or Keenan Allen.
Now, THE Truth has always said, "They'll be around in round 2."
Hell, it's always our luck, LIKE WITH DREW BREES, that when we don't snatch a guy when he's there, he's gone.
I remember we had a late 20's pick and Drew Brees was there but we also had perhaps the 5th through 9th pick IN THE SECOND ROUND.
I think we were waiting to get Brees then but Brees was the first pick in the second round.
So my position is (and has always been) you get "the BPA at PON." You get the best player available at a position of need.
Except for defensive secondary you don't try to fill it in free agency.
I understand the BPA but I think the dolphins should focus on filling certain positions in the draft. Fix a problem. I rememeber in th e81 draft San Francisco had db issues they drafted dbs in rnds 1 2 3 & 5. MIA has had Oline problems for too many years now as well in the d backfield. What if our draft had looked like this last year:
1> Gilmore CB USC
2> Adams T OSU
3> Cousins QB MSU
3b> Potter T Boise
4> Green TE LaLaf
5> Dennard CB NE
6> Bilikudi DT
6B> Polk RB WA
7> Jones T NE
7> Streater WR Temple
all of these guys were available at our original picks. Adams & Potter ended the year as starters as did Gilmore and Dennard will probably start for the pats this year. Our tackle and CB problems would be resolved. Players are there we are not getting the max out of our draft.
Potter was drafted in the 7th but I would have reached for him in the 3rd.
Streater was not even drafted but he had 39 catches & 3 tds for the Raiders. I remember this kid when Syracuse was looking at him as a transfer. Great size and good hands I would have given him a shot #7.

I'm still hesitant on Jennings. This is his 14th season, and he (supposedly) will be looking for a big payday.
I could understand signing him if Miami was on the cusp of big things and just needed that one guy, but that is not the situation in Miami. It's going to be another 3-4 years before Miami is "seriously" ready to challenge for the title.
By that time, Jennings would have already been retired.
Leave Jennings alone unless he is willing to come in at a reasonable price.
The big signing, for all the FA WRs out there, is Wallace.
I agree but even though I disagree I can see it happening...but not for big money. I think we wait on that particular FA for the smoke to clear as you mentioned in another thread.

This is Jennings' 8th season, not 14th.
And while Wallace is the "big signing" among the free agent WRs, he is probably the worst fit for a West Coast Offense of the big 3 (Bowe, Jennings). Look at what happened to Wallace this year when asked to run the shorter routes on the route tree.
