Quick initial observations:
- Franchise-killing brutal run from 1995 to 2004 with Gardner being a bright spot for a solid set of years next to Bowens on a very good defense...go ahead and extend to 2007 in my book with Ronnie Brown having a couple of good years with us
- 2008 - 2010: a run of high-quality 1st-rounders who are no longer with us

In essence, 1995 - 2010 not one player who made a significant long-term positive difference for the team...i.e. truly changed the trajectory for the better.

Interesting analysis here, good read. I do think you are a click or two low in your judgment of certain players like Gordon, Giesler, McNeal, Foster, Hampton, Coleman, Carey and...yes...Ginn.

Thanks. Even though its early. People are already wondering what we do if we undergo another plunge year. I just thought of looking at our first picks in the past.

Perhaps I'm a little prejudice against Ginn because of one play. I remember he was out about 25 yards away on the sidelines when he was thrown a pass. It hit him right in the hands and bounced off.

It was a Henne hot ball. The people on this board hated Henne. I posted about how a receiver, besides the punter and kicker, is the only position on the team than only has one job, "catch the ball." It would have been one thing if Henne had fired a missile from 5 yards away but the ball traveled over 25 yards hit him on the hands and bounced out of bounds. I remember he was good on kickoff returns but like I said, that play biased me.

The Wanny -Saban- Cameron years really sunk this team to the pits. By comparison the trifecta didn't do so bad, on 1st round picks at least.

I remember that play and it was exasperating. But there isn't a WR yet who hasn't dropped easy passes. The two issues people had with Ginn was that 1) he was drafted at a time when a QB was urgently needed, and 2) He was soft.

I personally didn't have an issue with #2. His job was to knock the top off defenses and he did that. He's also the only player I've seen in a Dolphins uniform in the past 15 years (besides Ricky Williams) who could win a game single-handedly.

As for #1, history has shown us that Randy Mueller and Cam Cameron were right to pass on Brady Quinn, though wouldn't it have been nice to have Darrelle Revis or Patrick Willis today? Sadly, not one QB in that draft ever amounted to much...Henne was probably the best of the lot.

2007 draft was ridiculous. I was hoping that we would draft Patrick Willis who was drafted after Ginn. Then soon after Marshawn Lynch and Revis were picked.

That draft could have produced cornerstone player for us.
