The refs totally whiffing on the delay of game against Flacco was the biggest play of that drive. Instead of a 5 yard penalty, they got a huge completion downfield to Heap.
I have notice that in several recent games the referees are not calling that delay of game penalty. They are a blatant too. Until recently I have never seen it happen much. Something is definitely up with that.
There was a blatant miss during our first game against the jests...3rd down conversion completed...Thomas Jones scores a play or two later.
The announcers always say 'There's about a 1-second delay since the ref looks at the playclock, then looks down at the ball'. This is ridiculous to me on two counts:
(a) aren't these guys essentially paid to uphold the rules of the game? can't they use their eyesight any better than that (i.e. peripheral vision to see two things at once)?
(b) if it can't be fixed by human means, certainly some simple technological device could be introduced that was synched with the playclock. When it hits '00', the device buzzes in their hand or pocket or whatever. I don't think I'm introducing rocket science with this suggestion.
This is a huge 'whiff' by the league, and I would contend that these misses have had big results on several games this season.
