I agree, the fact the NFL was a 501C, was absolutely absurd.... I am glad they are doing the honorable thing and getting rid of that ridiculous designation that was not designed for companies like the NFL....

The one thing that bothered me about the tax exempt status was that it effectively made the NFL a monopoly but that's not the kicker. For that kind of status they should have not been able to do certain things....like grant a monopoly themselves.

That's what they, the NFL, did in granting DirecTV a monopoly on their "Sunday Ticket."

So a monopoly granted a monopoly themselves instead of being forced to outlet their games to any paying video provider such as Time Warner or Charter, etc.

Based on my Dolphin fanaticism, they've had me tied to DirecTV for decades.

Of course, this is not really good news for me because it still does not solve my gripe but at least it makes more sense (from the legal angle only).
