I assume this assumes we keep wallace and he will be #1?
Landry is best in the slot, right? So he shouldn't be the #2 outside guy. We need more speed there.
I don't see a #2 on our roster right now. Matthews hasn't shown enough that he is that guy. Will need to be a rookie or FA, not on our roster right now

Yes. Keeping Wallace was the assumption.

I agree Landry should stay in the slot. He is one of the best from that position already.

I think Mathews was pretty good in 2013 as Gibson's replacement but is best as a #4 or backup to #2 and the slot.

Landry played 77% of his snaps in the slot last year. Mathews had 107 routes this year and only 18% was from the slot.

I think we need a top receiver so we are not trying to replace Wallace at the last minute. He can come in and play outside this year and hopefully become the number 1 option this or next year.

I really hope we draft one of the top 4 wideouts at #14; White, Parker, Cooper or Strong (in no particular order)

If we can get a receiver in the first round maybe he will start but dont expect a receiver in the second round or later to be ahead of landry.

We won the lotto with landry guys.

Well, we know it won't be a LB or safety (not likely)....If we get Suh, it likely won't be a DT.

Likely scenarios to have most affect on improving as a team....

WR to replace Hartline outside but with more rac/catch radius/speed/red zone ability.

OL: would shore up both lines (with Suh in place).

CB: If one is available & worth 14.

---------------------------------------------------

if they go BPA I would also add......

RB: Gordan
DE: if a good one falls (Beasley, etc)

Sam: This draft is just as deep as last year. There is a very good chance we can find a starting WR in round 2. No one would be "ahead" of Landry. he is the starting slot. We will be draft an outside guy (with speed) if we go that route.

Landry is a good player but 2d round picks are supposed to be good players. It's just been so many years we had a 2d rounder who was not a complete bust that is feels like winning the lotto when we actually draft a contributer, but it shouldn't

I hope the Raiders and Vikings sign Jeremy Maclin and Randall Cobb so they pass on WR at 4 & 11.

I hope one of the other teams sign Torrey Smith as well.

Yes. I think the Hines Ward comparisons are legit. He played outside and in the slot.

I think the best value at 14 at a position that will make the most immediate impact is WR assuming one of the top 3 guys is there. Plus it eases the blow when we dump wallace next year for cap space (hopefully we keep him around this year). If we sign suh we don't need to go D in the first round and can focus on D the rest of the draft.

I'd sign a guy as a cost effective free agent like Cecil Shorts, Andre Johnson, Harry Douglas, etc, and then draft a guy in the 1st or second who is capable of winning the 2nd wideout spot.

The veteran is a short term fix, who will be replaced by the draft pick(s), in two years.

Leave Landry in the slot. He's too slow and small to play outside at a high level for a long time. I don't remember which analyst or reporter had the quote from what GM or scout last year but the quote stuck with me..."Landry is an elite slot WR, but if you put him outside he's a JAG."

@OmarKelly

The Dolphins promoted Matt Hazel to the 53 roster to prevent another team from poaching him off their practice squad. He's solid.

@OmarKelly

"@TorresFeliciano: can Matt Hazel make the 53 this season"»yes. I was told he got very good at the end of the season when he got comfortable

I could probably google it, but spot does Hazel fit in at best?

6'1, 200: Good functional football-playing speed. Accelerates off the line and can create separation. Tracks the deep ball well, contorts his body in the air and can make difficult catches look easy. Can create after the catch and make the first defender miss on bubble screens out of the slot. Willing blocker -- displays surprising toughness for his size to mix it up with linebackers. Fared well vs. better competiition (see South Carolina). Comes from a very supportive family and has strong personal and football character. The game is very important to him. - NFL.com

He has speed similar to Hartline, 4.5 40 but 15 lbs heavier. Sounds like he could play split end with some work to get stronger/technique. He's definitely not taking the slot spot.
