Trent Dilfer calls Andrew Luck...
Posted by: Aqua&Orange ()
Date: September 27, 2011 05:14PM

The greatest QB he has seen since John Elway. Dilfer said he went back 30 years and broke down all of the top 3 or 4 QB's from every class and annotated their negatives and positives.

He said Luck is almost identical to Elway and that Luck will be better than Peyton Manning. He also said Luck has no negatives and that is the first from any QB he has ever broken down.

He said Luck will be in the Elway/Marino category one day.

Hey Aqua is Luck going to be better than your boy Newton or are all of the pundits wrong about him and how well he should do in the pro's. I watched Luck since his freshman season, and no other QB reminds me of Marino or Elway as Luck is a combination of both of them. Damn if we get him and Brady is getting older we could dominate the AFC east again like we did for some years when we had a young healthy Marino. I firmly believe having the best QB in your division gives you the best chance to win that division every year aka the Colts and Peyton Manning. Having Luck would essentially make the dolphins contenders again if he lives up to his potential.

And that A&O is exactly why I'm on the SFL bandwagon.

But someone here pointed out that if this team ended up with the 1st pick of the draft, the front office would probably trade down for more draft picks & pass him up. And you know what? The stupidity of this front office wouldn't surprise me at all.

if we are bad enough to get #1 overall, there will be nothing left of this FO to mess up the pick

Oh, you're so subtle, berk. If he is as great as Trent says (of course that's from Dilfer's perspective), he still can't win games by himself.

Oooooooooooooh! Hey, maybe, he's BETTER THAN ELWAY and can play defense as well.

BTW, I don't think Elway was better than Marino and not better than Montana either.

I heard Indy is planning to start playing their 3rd-string QB, which means they're going to be tough competition for Luck.

chyren, nothing is 100% in life. but I've never seen so many experts agree that one QB is going to be an all time great like I've seen with luck. don't you think that is a chance worth taking?

But, in my opinion, we dont even have to be the worst team to get him. This is a once in 20-30 year QB prospect coming out who could alter the course of your franchise for the next 15 years.

You do what you have to do to get him. Bottom line. I think we package every one of our picks to get this guy...and maybe multiple 1st rounders.

Then we'll dress Luck in a wedding dress for his first press conference as a Phin smoking smiley

Monte,

If you knew Dan Marino or John Elway was coming out this year, what would you be willing to give up for them?

Thing is, Marino had bad press, which is why we got so lucky to get him. Elway, on the other hand, publicly said he wouldn't play for the Colts...so they had no choice but to trade him. Same for Eli (who publicized he ONLY wanted to play for the NYG).

Luck is NO secret. EVERY team in the NFL would love to have him. So, unless we truly have the worst record and get the #1 pick, there's no way we're going to get him in a trade (the pick or the player) unless Luck publicly announces he won't play for whatever team is slated to pick him. It doesn't matter what we offer. We won't get him.

I understand all of what you said.

But I was just wondering what you would be willing to give up if you knew Andrew Luck was gonna be an all-time great?

I don't want to get my hopes up, so I'd prefer not to answer the question.

Actually, there IS one way we could lure him, but it's against the rules. That would be to negotiate with him BEFORE the draft and coax him into saying he won't play for the team with the #1 pick. Then we could offer whatever draft picks and anyone except Jake Long for him.

If we had a top 5 pick and one of the other QBs was also viewed as a sure thing, I would stay put and take that guy b/c the cost to get luck will probably be 2x what you all are thinking. the #1 overall pick salarywise costs nowhere what it used to so it's actually cost effective to keep the pick.
to move up from #5 to get luck I think costs the #5, 2d rounder, 3d rounder, next year's 1 and 2 and 3, and a player. We are talking Herschel Walker territory. So I'd prefer to stay put since a trade will be impossible.
However I wouuld give up the #1 and #3 and next years #1 and a player to end our QB nightmare.

Yes, most of them would. The irrational fascination with Henne STILL boggles my little mind.

Even Curt ventures in to ITAR-TASS like censorship by relegating anything bad about Henne to a 'special' thread. You are on LIST! winking smiley

Lets not get carried away with one player. Remember Tony Manderich - the greatest offensive line prospect EVER!

I don't care if everyone that has ever seen a fooball game tells us that Luck is the second comming of Marino.

It means nothing until he produces on the field.

With that said - I hope we do get him, (for the sake of the future of the Miami Dolphins).

1) Curt had nothing to do with the Special Thread

2) Only one post was ever moved there, and NONE were deleted.

3) The criticism of Henne has waned because most people can see that he has improved, while other areas of the team are much bigger problems, not because of censorship.

I'm wary of what media personalities say about this guy, since remember that they have their own agendas and are sometimes just plain dumb.

That said, I still think Luck is a great prospect. He has all the tools and has shown that he can use them.
