These are the positions that will be a problem IMO.

LB (obvious and well documented): still competition but no major replacements as of yet. Would be a surprise to me if there were changes before week 1.
---------------------------------------
OG: Still competition and starters unknown. Likely candidates are Colledge and Smith.
---------------------------------------
FS: I don't see Delmas as an improvement over Clemons. Does a few big plays outweigh consistency in tackling and coverage?

Coverage: both pretty good in coverage with the edge going to Clemons. Delmas gave up 4 tds, Clemons 2. 3 ints for Delmas, 1 for CC.

Run support: Delmas has the edge

Tackling efficiency: Edge to Clemons. Delmas was known to gamble more but Clemons was steady.

Reliability: Edge to Clemons. Delmas has injury concerns.

Overall: Not much of a drop off but Delmas will give up a few more big plays as well as make a few more big plays.

---------------------------------

SS: There were going to be questions here even with our full time starter. Not huge issues but rather seeing if Jones' one good season was a fluke.

I like Jimmy Wilson but not at SS. Could be a huge drop off here. He could be a liability in run support and be lucky to make it through 4 games at his size IMO. Should offer equal or better coverage ability.

---------------------------------

DT: Big drop off from Soliai to Mitchell in run defense. Mitchell probably offers more in up-field rushing. Odrick should take up slack if needed. Odrick more stout in run support than Mitchell IMO...and playing for a contract.

As an overall assessment of our defense, we could be in trouble up the middle in the run game. Someone is going to need to step up. At the very least, I like the experiment of Wheeler to SLB and Ellerbe to WLB but one (at least) should get replaced.

I think we will be better in coverage but hard to say vs the run. I see potential for issues here.

I agree for the most part, our problem areas are going to be whether we can stop the run on the defensive side of the ball and run the ball on the offensive side...

run the ball on offense and stop the run on defense.....agree thats the 2 mayor problems for this team.

Soliai was a major part of our poor run d last year. Not sure why everyone thinks he's a major loss.

I noticed in our first preseason game we ran it right at him on 3rd and short and gained 5 yards.

Fans get too familiar with names than actual value of a player.

Our d will suck again because Kevin Coyle is a stiff and in over his head.

By moving Wilson to SS we've weakened 3 positions. Let one of the other natural safties play the first 4 games, keep Wilson in the slot and Finnegan at CB.

Soliai didn't do too good in that first pre season game with the falcons.

He had a good stint with us for a little while there but it didn't last too long.

We definately will not miss him and im glad we kept starks instead of him.
