Bush may not even be our best RB on the team let alone the best offensive player?

Reggie Bush leads the team in total yards, and TD's. And Reggie has scored most of his TD's from far away, as far away as 65, unlike Thomas who got most of his in goal line... Almost every Bush TD this year is a highlight reel jaw dropping play...

First, AP had 19 fumbles in two seasons and 6 fumbles by the time that article was written (12/3) before there was even a discussion o whether he should be benched. Was he benched? NO! Why? Probably because Childress knew that he couldn't take his best player off the field and may be fired if he did. Nevermind the fact that childress is no longer a head coach.
Second, Ryan Matthews? Really? C'mon man, we're talking about best weapon. Matthews is a bust. No comparison. Oh yeah, Turner won't be a head coach next year.
Third, you have a valid point with coughlin. But then again, had Eli not turned their first Super Bowl season around, he was going to be out of a job when that year ended. And he was talking about benching a rookie, not an established vet that's proven he's a playmaker in this league. Hard to argue against him though.
And finally, Shula' situation Was entirely different. He had capable backups and parmalee had 3 fumbles in the first 2-3 games...2 of which were in the first game of the season against division rival.

If you say so...at least Crowder agrees with you.

Well, AP is a unique situation since he was sharing time with Chester taylor when all this went down. Since Taylor was getting entire series and was the 3rd down back its very probable he was pulled for a series or two and nobody would know. But I'm done researching this subject.

Yeah, Matthews. The same guy the Chargers traded up to get (with us) to replace LT.
Whether he is a bust now or not is debatable. But also irrelevant to the circumstances where he was benched for FUMBLING as a rookie by a coach currently in the NFL. (yes we know...turner sucks so it doesn't count)...

haha. Eli has nothing to do with this. And its not about a rookie. He's benched every RB he's had that has fumbled once to often for his tastes. Even Tiki Barber.

No it wasn't different. That's the point. Shula benched his starter for failing to protect the ball.
Frankly, the idea that Philbin would do the same thing as Shula and Coughlin to his best offensive player so early in his tenure as coach is a good thing.
If you can't see that following in the footsteps of a couple of HOF coaches (and there are MANY others) when it comes to discipline and having consequences for fumbling is a sign that Philbin might be a good coach, instead of proof he's a failure, then we are never going to agree on this subject.
I wouldn't have a problem with Philbin benching bush if, like parmalee, he had three fumbles in the first 3 games. Difference is...he was benched in the 9th game for his third fumble and it seems he's still being punished for it now with limited pt
I don't think his stance on this subject alone makes him a bad coach, I have other reasons as well. But my opinion, at this point of his career, is based on such a small sampling that it's subject to change based on the results on the field. Right now, I'm just not seeing results.
